I live in NY, and I registered my car in VT (because they allow out of state registration) to avoid tedious salvage inspection laws. Now I am finding that I can't get insurance. I figured this would happen but I thought there would be a loophole.
Having researched this over and over again, I can't seem to find information on insurance regulations pertaining to this. Thus, I can't find an answer to my dilemma.
Anyone have any suggestions or information, either legal or otherwise?

well, i live in michigan now, but have my car registered and insured in florida. I have proof of residency in florida (my mom and stepdad live there...and so did I up until a few weeks ago) I think the only way to get insured in a state is to have a proof of residency there.

Be vawy vawy carefull. I had a friend who had his car registered in VA but lived in MD (Maryland has higher rates) and his car was stollen....needless to say he is paying a car note for a vehicle that he no longer has <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>
Edit: I have my car registered in Ohio and insured in VA. I didn't have any probs either
Is it because of the salvage title? Try calling the Hartford insurance they were really cool w/ me

nrcooled, what did you say or rather how did you explain your situation when you first got your policy rolling? Is Hartford Ins. all over the place? Maybe there is a ray of light! (my salvage title has nothing to do with insurance, just state inspection procedures)

They really didn't ask any questions. All they wanted was the VIN and car make model etc. They are nationwide also. It was a pretty simple process and the rates were pretty low also $156/month for two cars. I suggest you give them a call
