I know a lot of people here DD their 240s, but for those of you who dont and have more than one car, what do you do for insurance? How does your coverage work? full coverage on one not on the other insured only part of the year or what? also what do you pay for insurance a year with 2 cars? Im considering picking up some random POS for the winters but my insurance on my 240 is a little over 2k a year so wondering what it would be with another car just for those 3 or 4 months

Full coverage on a 240 is wasting your money

I have two cars

One daily and my 240

Liability + Uninsured Motorists on both

I think I told the insurance company that the 240 is a "weekend car" or something and I don't drive it much, and that might affect the price

The reason full coverage is a waste of money is because typically if you crash a 240, then your car would be salvaged, and you'd get the value of your car's current value...which for a S13 is maybe at most $2000? Worthless, considering how much you'd pay more in premiums for full coverage.

Or if you have theft on your 240...if someone steals your car...the insurance company isn't going to give you full retail value for your parts, if anything they won't even care about the mods...and again you'll get at most $2000, which doesn't compare to the premium increase.

Keep in mind that this is from MY experience, so if your insurance company gives you like $25000 for your car when it got stolen, then that's awesome. But for the most part this is how it goes down.

what about if you get your car officially appraised...i talked to my insurance company and they said i could have it appraised to value with mods and everything so if anything happened i would get that amount back

Insurance companies will probably find ways to pay you less since that is what they are good for. They will try to get you the lowest price so that they save money. It would be better to just get liability for the 240 unless its an s14 in which you could actually get your moneys worth. If an s13, find the lowest INS you can because any money you throw into it will not be counted. And if proffesionally appraised, the INS company will still lowball you.

yes maam. You can try to fight it but most likely you will lose. INS companies will rape you on premiums but when its time to collect they are cheap bastards.

I have full coverage on my S14 because i am so scared something terrible will happen to it (knock on wood) and minimum liability on my DD ford ranger, haha.

Plus, all you have to do is fart on a 240 a little hard and they'll total it out.

Yeah fuck full coverage on a 240, insurance co wants way too much money and then they don't want to give you anything when it gets totalled/stolen.
I have basic on both the cressida and the 240.
The only car I have ever had full coverage on was my Impreza and that cause it was like 1.5 yrs old at the time, when the M3 arrives here it will get full coverage. But for lesser value cars like the 240 it simply not worth it in the long wrong

if u drive minimal miles, your insurance will verify and you will recieve some kind of price cut/discount.

3 vehicles
89 240sx - liability only
98 Impreza 2.5RS - liability only
01 Frontier - full coverage

I pay Geico $1900 a year. I'll be selling the truck soon and my insurance is going to be cut in half. Insurance is the biggest scam ever.
Full coverage on an older vehicle is a waste of money IMO.

No shit... notice they are called insurance COMPANIES. Who wants to own stock in an insurance company that charges low premiums and hands out free cash whenever a claim comes up? Its their job to make money, its your job to get the best out of your experience with them. If you have a problem with how much they give you, take the time to argue with them. Talk to superiors whenever possible. You take enough of their time arguing your point and eventually it gets cheaper to give you the $ you deserve than to keep talking to you. Just back everything up with receipts and autotrader ads and you should have a decent case towards getting what you should get.

full coverage on a 240sx? why?

my 240 has liability, my m30 has liability (but i'll be disposing of it soon and dd'ing the 240 again), and when i finally get my '67 Galaxie 500 running again, it'll get historic vehicle plates and the ludicrously cheap insurance that goes along with them.

i have 2 240's a s13 and a s14. me and my moms insurance is like 200+ amonth for both of my cars and her volkswagon. only reasson me and my mom are on it is because im only 16 so its cheaper and full coverge is a waste on a 240. they dont retail for much at all so if you wreck it you wont even get what you pay a year for insurance out of it.

I have a '90 240sx with liability and a '01 S2k with full coverage. The S2K is horrible to insure but I only pay 84/mo for the both of them. Thank God for a clean driving record.

Its a shame I daily drive the 240...wait no it's not. I have more fun driving it.

I have 6 cars I'm in constant rotation driving.

Only two have full. The others have liability.

It's pretty pointless having full imo on a old ass pos. Unless you plan on crashing into things and want your own car repaired.

Find a local "agents of insurance" they basically will find you the rock bottom price for anything. I insure a 2003 lexus and my 98 240sx for 130 a month for full coverage on both. Im 23.

Full on both.
It's in my dad's name, it's way less than $120/month.

My dad said my dd is just a parts car and that my 240sx was very rarely driven.
