Found a 240sx on CL

Hey, my s13 240 was totaled from an accident and so I was looking for another car. I found a 97 240sx with 120xxx miles on it with an automatic transmission on craigslist. I called the owner and asked her general questions. She told me the 2 bads about the car is that the starter acts up, and you have to put your foot on the accelerater to start it. Also, the transmission is a little stuck at "Park" But it will switch gears, just takes a little patience. She's selling the car for $5,100 obo in as is condition. Now, my car is 91 240sx with a ka24de and an automatic transmission. The accident never touched my motor and transmission so i was wondering, would it be possible to swap the motor and tranny from my 91 into the 97? THis would be best because I know my 91 is taken care of and everything runs fine, so would that be a good idea? Buy it back from the insurance and swap it? How much would this swap be? A 91 ka24de and auto tranny into a 97. Thx in advance.

yes all ka's are the same besides DOHC and SOHC. and obd1 and obd2. the transmission might be like mine was. the part that lets the button on the shifter take it out of gear cold have some dirt on the thing and it is getting stuck. dunno about 5,100 that is kinda high for 120+ miles and it has some probelms go loot at it and buy it if you like it. also i think the s13 and the s14 ka might need some wires re done im not for sure on it tho. but they will work in any 240.

You can do that if you want, but you'll never pass smog.

91 wont have any OBDII sensors. It's more work than it's worth.

Just keep using the tranny bellhousing on the s14. Take the bell housing off of the s13 tranny and then bolt the s13 tranny to the s14 bell housing. You need the s14 bell housing for the CAS so you dont get a cell code and so your check engine light doesnt come on.

I'd offer her $4,500 cash right now and just do 5 speed conversion. Then that lets you have fun with the 5 speed and also raise the value of your car a little when it comes to selling it to people who would rather have the 5 speed than auto.

haha ive seen this on CL, buy it throw the auto tranny n motor away and swap it. it seems worth it still, you can also sell me your hood

Too bad your on the west coast. Auto tranny w/ 62k on it is coming out of my 98 in a month
