so i was going out the other night and my buddy closed my trunk lid really hard (trunk not hatch) and after we opened it and than went to close it, the trunk wouldnt close. I think he broke it when he shut it. I took it off because it wasnt moving when i tried to use my key either.

Can anyone tell me if i'm missing a piece to the latch? (this is the part where the key would go, right behind the key hole in the trunk)

It's broken, there's a return spring that you know longer have.

Hit the boneyards and make him pay for it.

sorry guys, this might be off topic...but is there any ways to fix it if its loose?
i have a hatchback, and my hatch would rattle especially when i am on the freeway =/ .

you should get this latch and toss it to your friend (aim his head), time for u to see dealer or junkyard

Yes, and there's plenty of threads detailing how to do so without cutting into someone else's thread which doesn't relate.

thanks guys...and yea i should throw it at my friend for being an idiot

....but before i do that does anyone have a picture or could get me a picture of what its supposed to look like. All i know is that the spring is gone, but have no clue where its supposed to go if i get my hands on one??

Sorry to bring a thread back form the dead but I have a coupe and have the same problem only im not missing a spring. If I push something in there like a pen adn push it back it springs back, then when I hit the manual lever to move it it springs into place. My question is sometimes when I shut my trunk it still doesnt shut, but then if I mess with the manual lever it will shut. I think the hooked part may be bent. Anyone know if it bends easily or if theres anything else I should look for. When it shuts it feels like its hitting the metal hook thing on the bottom and its not sliding out of the way to latch. Again sorry for bringing a post back from the dead but I didnt wanna get grilled for starting a new one on something already addressed.

Check the see if it lines up with the striker as you close it, it could easily be bent a little, there's only a small area to line up right.
