Well I have pieced together a pretty good turbo set up i plan putting on my sr20det when school lets out. I plan on getting cams, I have some in mind, however I would like to see what you all think would be most appropriate for my setup, please name the brand and specs too, appreciate it! What do you guys think would be most cost affective?

98 blacktop sr20det
z32 n62 maf sensor
bikirom (new)
deatschwerks 550cc's (new)
garret gt2540R 0.86 turbine side (used, 390hp capable)
stock manifold w/ 38mm flange
tial 38mm external wg
front mount intercooler
full 3" exhaust
walbro fuel pump 255lph

I plan on settling for around 350whp on this setup w/ stock motor.

Thanks!

brian crower is the cheapest, may or may not require springs, i forget...

and you'll need a capable clutch if you're really going up in hp...

How do you plan on using the stock manifold and an external wastegate?

Wth the crowers your going to need springs.if you dont want to go inside the head you can go with a set poncams from tomei which dont req head mods just drop in and go.

also what are the full specs on that turbo?

I have an exedy stage 2 clutch I just installed along with a fresh 5sp tranny. The turbo is a custom made one by JGY Customs, out of real Garrett parts, and was intended for use on a FWD sr20. I finally figured out its model, a GT2540R, 0.86 is all the turbo says printed on it, however its pretty mean looking.. notice how huge that freakin turbine wheel is. I'm actually gonna have to shave some of the o2 housing flange (on the inside) to get the best flow.

Compare that to the 0.86 GT2871R

Anyways, heres how I plan on modifying the manifold like so: (stole pic from some1 on FS)

So would the brian crower cams + springs benefit me greatly? and should I consider getting RAS too?

Nice, thats what I might do for my CA, not alot of good quality manifold for em.

Obviously from my list of mods and buying and offbrand turbo you can tell I'm not well off, so I have opted to go with the stock manifold, its very strong, durable, and is prettymuch crackproof/failsafe. I've dealt with my share of MR manifolds and if it wasnt a pinhole impurity blowing out of the metal it was a runner cracking off the flange. So stock E/M it is for me. I'm doing this all next week so I'll add pictures.

what about spooling?
At what RPM did it reach 16psi or full boost..
or even better do you have a dyno graph to post..?

My car has a GT2540R Empalthy Tune, Z32 maf, Greddy Intake, Tubular Mani, Greddy 02 housing, 3" DP, Test Pipe, 264/272 HKS cams,1.2 Head Gasket,......Yada Yada Yada....

My car was boost spiking @ 16 PSI But made 386/305TQ.......

Im hoping to get the Car to 400hp @ 20psi.

Im having Empalthy re-re-tune my ECU for my cams.

rocker arm stoppers should be your first mod on a sr learned that from aaron form PG:rawk:

Just run the tomei's search on here there's a few dyno sheets for them also dont forget the cam gears

Are cam gears are a necessity?

Are cam gears are a necessity?

No, very costly to have it tuned and set in correctly

HKS stage 1 or Tomei poncams should do

manifold first. then cams. in my opinion.

for sure go topmount but go with peakboost if you dont know anyone that can make you a custom one.

What? What? Not doing topmount already explained that, look up at the pics in the thread. Can't afford peakboost as much as I'd want to. Also, the gt2540R is t25 flanged for convenience..

If its purely for response the hks 256 step 1s (no need for springs with step 1s)

get HKS step 1 264s, youll be good to go and youll be ablet o breath out to 400whp range with some of the bottom mount turbos available.

Thanks, you know I was looking at my turbos turbine wheel as compared to the gt2871r 0.86... I'm guessing its the angle of the fan blade that controls the AR? cuz my turbine wheel is almost 1cm larger in diameter. Don't know much info about AR on turbos.
