Is it just me or does the apexi gt 3 inch exhaust sits extremely low to the ground with a lowered 240sx? my mid pipe is literally and i mean literally 1 inch off the ground. i wouldntr be able to clear train tracks, pot holes or the tiniest bump. anyone got the same problem as me?

A lot of exhausts hang low. I know that once I switched to the newer Megan downpipe w/flex section, it put the rest of the exhaust below the frame rails by about an inch, so it scraped everywhere. The solution is to have the downpipe 'sectioned' (cut/rewelded so it fits closer to the car body) and this raises the rest of the exhaust up above the frame rails.

These "My exhaust is too low" threads have been popping up more frquently lately.

Ensure your bushings aren't old and worn. That is the most common reason exhausts hang too low. You can buy new hanger bushings or put pipe clamps around the old ones, and tighten them down until it has the proper clearnace for you.

or get aero and big wheels. you wont have to go so low. heh

aero + small wheels (tucking stock SEs) = scraped everything lol.

The Apex GT has horrible clearance... PERIOD. Maybe because the piping is as large as a semi's driveshaft. What I've done in the past for all sagging exhausts was either buy "bolt on" exhaust hangers that come with the rubber straps OR you could use hoseclamps over the existing bushings to "squish" them, making them more firm. I've personally had better results by using bunjee cable, and wrapping it tightly around the bushing as well as the hanger (covering the hanger it with flameproof wrap so the bunjee doesn't get too hot).

I remember seeing a pic somewhere of a car that had steel bars welded into the undebody protecting the exhaust and holding it up closer to the car seemed like a pretty good idea...idk if any one knows the pic im talking about and could post it

I have a Apexi GT exhaust and it does scrap quite alot sometimes but I run 17's up front and 18's in the rear and try not to lower my car any lower.

I don't think it's the fact that the piping is 3" that is causing the problem.
I have full 3" on my S13, and I rarely scrape my cat, nothing else.

Granted, it could still go lower, and eventually it will.

Yea, it is possible to get 3" to sit up in the body, just the best setups for clearance seem to be custom jobs by people who know what the hell they are doing.

Not the Apex GT, lol, that fucker hangs low no matter what you do, it's a giant. Blitz Nur-spec hangs pretty damn low too.

my brother and i have the apexi gt exhaust my brother scrapes because he is slammed on 15's. Whereas i hardly scrap on 18's. The condition of your bushings have alot to do with it.

Yeah no crap tell me about it lol! Its juss the way apexi made the exhaust, gotta learn to live with it. I had mine for almost 5 years now and its still in good condition minus the flat spot where it scrapes right at the bend.

Raise the exhaust buy using radiator clamps around the exhaust bushings.

GT Spec is not 3", it's 3.75" that probably has something to do with it scraping. i have it and it's beat all to hell. i'll be changing to something with more clearance i believe, even though i love the exhaust and the way it sounds.

My Exmag never scraped, and it was 3 inches in diameter also. It's all in the design of the exhaust and how worn your bushings are.

Most aftermarket exhausts hang pretty low, especially if they're angled. That's the reason I had a custom exhaust made, now the lowest part is the downpipe. If you want to keep your GT exhaust and don't want it to scrape, have the tow hook above the muffler cut off, and then have the hangers shortened (By hangers I mean the things welded to the exhaust that the actual hangers go on.). It shouldn't cost more than $50 to do at any exhaust shop.

that last ones not too low.. yea.. the GT spec is 90mm piping, roughly 3.75 inches which does give it the effect of being "lower". why are people so cheap that they cant buy new exhaust hanger bushings??? $25 for 3 circuit sports bushings. s13s take 3, s14s take 4.. i only put 3 on my s14. one of the hangers is made to take 2.. but.. these are stiff as shit, and one works just fine. i have 3 CS bushings brand new in box ill sell them for $27 shipped if anyones interested.
