Alright, been a while since I've been around here, but here goes. I got an HC33 Laurel. I'm getting it ready to compete in MSC this year. It has an rb20e in it that's dying slowly and painfully. Got a blacktop s13 motor for $150 bucks from a friend who got it from a guy that wrecked on the mountain. Couldn't beat the price, but it didn't have a tranny, no worries, got one in the closet. Didn't come with the chassis side of the harness, no worries, wiring doesn't bother me. Lastly, no ignitor chip. That's where I need to know if a CA ignitor will work with the sr. I just got 2 in hand for nothing, and if I can use it, great! But if I can't, I'll sell them. Also, if it'd work, I'd be willing to trade one for a suspension upgrade.
I'm really trying to do this on the cheap. So far, got the car for free, used the Megans off of my s13 that I just sold and picked up a great low kilometer blacktop for cheap, and reused my 17x9's with the brand new tires I never used at last winters matsuri. Only thing left is to pick up my 6pt cage for 60 bucks and find a (JDM) drivers and passenger superlowdown seat rails, get an r32 catback or c33 if I can get one cheap, drop motor/tranny in and snag the free 2way from a friends wrecked ride. And after all that, I might go five lug if I can find everything cheap! Lovin this ride already.

No idea if you can use a ca ignitor. Good luck with your swap. I planned on doing it myself but I'm gonna be gone so much this year that I'm just paying a shop to do it.
Remember you also need a s-chassis crossmember (preferebly same as your engine-but s13/s14 are interchangeable I THINK). Also you you will have to modify the transmission mount.
Lastly there is an adapter harness made so that the swap is plug and play. I have one for my swap but have no idea who makes it. G/L man.

no worries. I got Labyrinth to make a modified mission member, and I got a couple places to pick up a motor crossmember. Do you know if a CA Xmember will work? I have access to three crashed ones right now. I got a lot of work ahead of me, but I already have the wiring harness apart ready to be cleaned up so it doesn't give me probs later on. I'm pretty much taking the time to get everything cleaned up and readay to rock before I even think about doing the actual swap. Get everything done now, and the swap itself will only take a matter of hours.

CA member should work, they just use different motormounts.

gotta ask, why are you dropping an sr in place of an rb20det? Not that much of a diff, other than the feel. At least stock. And if you are dropping buku yen on the motor for power, I would think that the rb would be beefier. Whatevers, I seem to lost all my knowledge over the winter and not really driving/working on the cars. I must say that I do love that straight six sound, and dare I say I like the scream of a 1jz over an rb.

try reading again. not an RB20DET, an RB20E. no turbo, no DOHC. without doing any research, i'd guess the engine puts out 120hp or so. even a stock SR is quite an upgrade.
good luck, sorry i can't answer any of the original questions.

plain and simple... i hate the rb20, the way it sounds (in a laurel/cefiro), the response/powerband, im just in love w/ my sr... also i have 3 sr motors, and two tuned ecu's, two turbo kits, etc... i have NO parts for a rb20 (well i have a turbo kit but no tune)... if i had access to a rb25 for free, tuned, w/ ecu, i might have gone that route, but being as my last 2 cars were s13's this is what i chose...oh did i say i hate rb20s haha

makes sense. I'd be working on my stuff right now if it weren't for this damned strep throat. I'm on quarters right now, supposed to be till Sunday, and from the way I've been, I'm gonna need it.
