Riding in my girlfriends car tonight. Hear a rattling sound. Drive on for a minute. Car dies. Get out and look under the car. One of the bolts came loose on the alternator and it slid down. The belt was hanging. On 240s This belt goes around the alternator pulley and also drives the main cooling fan. I believe this was only off for 5 minutes or so and the temp gauge didnt go up. What specific damage should i be worried about?
thanks in advance,
brian

Nothing is harmed, just find the bolt and tight the belt back on. Inspect the belt for cracks/damage, replace if necessary.

If it was the alternator belt, then your electrical system was being run off the battery. (The alternator was no longer charging the battery) If the belt isn't cracked or torn, then the only damage is probably just a low battery.
