i hate ppl that always say "i used to like them(him/her) before they got popular"

Haha, yes I am, I can't help it. There may be a good song, but once I start hearing it everywhere, and everyone starts talking about it, it just gets played out. It's not that I stop listening to it just because someone else listens to it, it's that I don't find the song as enjoyable after I hear it an x amount of times, so I move on to something else, unless it's a very very good track.
But at the same time, it's kind of like shoes, or car parts, which might make it easier to understand to some. Some people don't want everyone rocking what they have, because then it's not as unique anymore, it may seem really dumb and childish, but it's like having something of your own that makes you you, and you don't want every 14-year old to have it, haha.

Fuck whats out there now, I'm stuck in the 80s/90s rap as well. My collection of original (not redone remixed bullshit) Tupac is packed to the brim. I've been listening to plenty of DJ quik, last album wasnt bad either. Lots of Wutang, especially the GZA.. fucking great, with that special DIRTY wu sound.
Past month has been fun listening to jazz, donald byrd and such.. nice to listen to sounds that have been heavily sampled by pac and other artists. Listen to "Wind Parade" for example, you'll hear Pac's "Late Night" that DJ quik produced.. real good shit.

Do we need to? Thats classic rap at its finest. If you like Naughty By Nature, check out "The New Style" that was the group name when they first started. I have a bunch of tracks, not bad. Real old school, but still fun to listen to.

^^^ Don't forget The DemiGodz and all of their respective members (some of whom HAVE been mentioned), Apathy, Celhph Titled, Louis Logic, Majik Most, 7L & Esoteric and Styles of Beyond.
On the whole, hip hop in general as of late is disappointing me.
I have turned back to listening to old shit.
EPMD
Public Enemy
Wu Tang (the first album and the first round of solos, they began sucking after that)

The fact remains that I, much in the same manner as Mike, have been taking in a LOT of Jazz again lately, I have been listening to the Herbie Hancock MP3 disc in my car all week. I also have one with all Coltrane, and one with a compilation of albums from Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker, Freddie Hubbard and Wayne Shorter. Miles Davis is always an option, and happens to be one that fills 3+ MP3 discs as well.
I am more than willing to go out of my way to take in something that is classically enjoyable in wait for the new Little Brother and Lupe Fiasco albums to release.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of old school as well. Of course, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Wu-Tang and a few of the more "popular" ones always stay in the disc changer, but I've been listening to Binary, Pharcyde, The Fugees, Hieroglyphics, and ATCQ lately as well.

Main Source/Large Professor is GREAT.. I gotta get more tracks. Philip, you gotta e-mail me so that we can do a bit of burn-and-exchanging. I'll set you up with whatever I got over here in exchange, especially after that massive Gil Scott Heron donation.
IMO, every single one of DJ Quik's albums are fuckin great. The last couple have changed style a bit, but it doesnt bother me much. I think Quik's recipes always contain very similar ingredients. While the vocals themselves arent always tip top, his production is *always* primo.
A few things I dont like:
- Southern Rap. Besides Outkast & Goodie Mob, I cant listen to that shit.
- BLING BLING MTV Rap. This shit is so fuckin pre-packaged and fuckin makes me yack. Jay-Z has fallen into this catagory, and I cant listen to his ass either. Every fucking song is about how badassed he is and how baller he is. I think Jay-Z is skilled, but I still feel like saying FUCK Jay-Z.
- Eminem. I'll throw him in the same catagory as Jay-Z, he's skilled.. but honestly, this is like angry white boy music. I'de rather listen to Beasie Boys, I dont even like them.
- Happy Rap. Something dont bother me much, like Jurassic5.. its not horrible. But some things IMO, are pop. For instance: Will Smith, Black Eyed Peas. Shit, I think Marky Mark has more balls. Either way, fuck Happy Rap.
- Biggie. I dont like how everyone groups Biggie in the same skill-realm as Tupac. He's not. I think Notorious BIG is talented and has made a good amount of very high quality songs. However, I think Tupac is fuckin EPIC. My Tupac collection nearly triples Biggies (for me).
From the Bay area, I've been enjoying E-40 (gotta bust the Carlo Rossi).. and B-Legit (Black Superman!). Shit like that has been keeping me sane. I listen to some BDP, PE, or even some Dogg Pound.. takes me away from the depression of being reminded how fucking DEAD the scene is.
If Tupac was alive, gaddamn I wonder what the fuck he'd be coming out with. Everytime DJ Quik comes out with something new, it really make me happy because shit, Pac and Eaz-E are dead.. a lot of the good OG rappers are dead.. and since he is still alive, it really does show what modern day transitions would be like. Still, I cant help but watch Dave Chappelle...

control.......no, alt............. no, DELETE.. yeah thats it. Learn to use it, my friend. :-)
The only good thing about Nelly's existence, is him getting dissed by KRS-One. Shit, I gotta say though, he must've felt pretty good getting slammed by a legend like KRS. Quite the opposite of what happened to Kool Moe Dee, he got his old ass handed to him by LL.
Diss tracks is one of the best things about rap music... damn not to bring up Chappelle again, but that skit about the "Battle at the Kool Moe Dee" concert with Mos Def was fuckin hillarious. Gang wars...

MC Eight -Straight up Menace
E-40- Sideways, One Love
Akinele- Fuck for Free, Put it in your Mouth
Luniz- 5 On It (remix too)
