rendering looks pretty awesome! im currently working on getting into Art Center's Trans Design program so these kind of subjects really interest me these days.

The rendering itself is bad ass, but i don't like the style of the wheel, wouldn't buy it.

s14unimog

Its my first try at a "spider spoke" design

BBS style, sorta

Ian

I don't like the way the wheel meets the barrel personally...

s14unimog
04-26-2007, 01:34 PM
which part exactly?

AJ1356

+1,000 .....

Ian
04-26-2007, 01:45 PM
Well there's no definition b/w spoke and barrel...It looks like a multipiece wheel face but in a one piece wheel It looks goofy

It's hard for me to explain as I have no techinical expertise in this...

s14unimog
04-26-2007, 01:52 PM
so you would rather see the wheel as a 3 piece?
not 1 piece forged?

bigOdom1
04-26-2007, 01:53 PM
offset the lip a little lower than the barrel where the spokes meet

BOROSUN
04-26-2007, 01:53 PM
hmm maybe because there's no step, its just a straight barrel.

s14unimog
04-26-2007, 02:23 PM
so you think I should add a step? the goal was more towards a solid one piece machined wheel. I thought that a seperate plane barrel would look wierd.

Dorifto89

Render like...an 18" SSR reverse mesh kinda thing. That would be pretty cool looking.

Ian
04-26-2007, 02:36 PM
I feel like that face style in a 1 piece wheel, with a lip, just doesn't work that well

2 different styles that don't get put together for a reason, ya know?

s14unimog
04-26-2007, 02:45 PM
I see where you are coming from but the only reason I strayed from that was b/c I was trying to avoid the

"hey that looks like a BBS"

I'll try a few things and see if I can improve it some

put a set lip in them and also give it that 2pc forged look and you will have winner.....:2f2f:

something like these with out the buttons

NICE! I love this style (BBS, Work VS-XX, etc)... gunmetal rendering looks a little off, polished/chrome looked great!

yoru going to have to have the steps there for the tire to beed etc... unless its going to be a full cast wheel rather then a rolling forged wheel or something..

also, keep in mind for caliper clearance... the way it looks now, it will fit like an RX7 front only where you can have no pad height for the caliper... goign to have to pull the spokes out towards the face of the wheel and have a deeper wheel hub mounting thickness...

to get the wheel to fit is going to change the spoke angle design / depth drastically....

^^agree. That's exactly what I was thinking and include a kinda RE30 feel to it also. Looks better in Gunmetal. Try bronze and see what it looks like.

I like the second one that you did s14unimog. the wheel that you posted at the start of the thread looks a lot like all those cheap chrome wheels that you see on silverados and tahoes.

s14unimog
04-26-2007, 07:44 PM
I'll add some more to the pad to give it more clearance for the brakes. Also tomorrow I'll throw together some calipers and 2 piece rotors

hahahaha

imma print me out a set, can you draw me up a new motor too?

cdlong
04-27-2007, 02:24 PM
that rotor is huge. looks good though. i agree with everyone that the barrel looks wrong. no wheel has a completely flat barrel like that. there's always a step for the tire bead and usually one inboard of the spokes to make the spoke attachment stronger.

are those tires the proper diameter? they look like rubberbands but they are pretty wide so that's to be expected.

s14unimog
04-27-2007, 02:51 PM
well the tire profile is very small and could probably stand to be a little larger.

Latest model looks good but where is the caliper? It would really give the rendering a finshed look. Good work so far.

WOW,

thats awesome haha,

I use to use AutoDesk Inv. v 10,

I gotta go back on it,

I designed a full working motion 1 cylinder motor.

s14unimog

I think there is a single cylinder motor in one of the demo's. The presentation part of inventor is amazing. I love this program

Looks like a jline/iforged/hre/kinesis knockoff. Try rounding the spokes or adding a stepped lip?

While designing you always have to keep yourself in check, make it crazy and far out as you'd like but also keep in mind that someone will have to build it eventually and it's better if you make it easier for them while you can than have them change and screw with your desing and screw it up in the end.

You always have to keep functionality in mind, how, where, when it's going to be used and by who or what don't just come up with random stuff and then try to figure out where to place it, that'll just make it harder for you in the end.

Oh yeah, I'm currently attending Art Centers Industrial Design program, and love transportation design.:rawk:

Hey Ugly(jk) where did you graduate from?

Alias is nice but too much work, I love Solidworks, it does half the work for you, I did a couple of cool little toy GP cars and in the process of making a Ferrari GTO (original) replica, fun stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I know what you mean though, I deal with that problem everyday with designing these Ag. sprayers. My goal was mainly to give you guys something to look at and just show off the programs ability.

also its fun to design stuff thats more form over function. I'd love to have the income to actually get some of these made. "Where did you get those wheels?"....."Made em!"

Yeah letting your imagination run wild is fun, but then bean counters have to ruin it with "It's too costly waaa" Then again building something beautiful and functional is more satisfying (Ferrari 599 or almost any F car, just about any Volk wheel, 240's of course ;) etc...
