my gf's s14's automatic tranny stick is stuck. the little metal rod that goes into the black tube thing is stuck. it doesn't go up and down anymore. its stuck down. i tried pulling at it with vise grips but nothing. does anyone know whats going on there?
and no i dont have money to swap to manual. i have my manual s13 already.

hmm, sounds like the shift lock is malfunctioning. im not to familiar with S14 automatics but i know other older automatic imports share this same problem. (accords, camerys, etc)
to fix you can:
1) have the shifter replaced
or
2) i believe there is a shift lock override button somewhere on the shifter column. i know honda and toyota automatics have them, try checking your gf's S14, its worth a shot :) they must be depressed to override the locking system in your shifter, good luck :)

same thing happened to mine. dirt gets built up on the part that lets the button work clean it and put some wd 40. i know that praobally wont help to much but mine got stuck while it was getting worked on and thats how they fixed it.

i pushed the key lock switch myself to get the key out. and i dont know if the wd40 will work becuase i can't even pull the thing out with a visegrip. i'll go try those thinkg now that i'm off work. it goes into all the gears its just the spring rod thingy is stuck down which i beleive is keeping me from putting it up all the way in park.

take the trim off arounf the shifter than you can see the whole shifter. its on the passenger side i know that. if its like mine i couldnt get mine out of park it would act like the brake wasnt pressed down.

i got it to work guys. its pretty stupid what my problem was though. one of the allen screws from my cheap auto shifter fell into the black shifter tube. but then it wouldn't go all the way up, so i cut off about an inch of the shifter so maybe i can see what else is stuck. nothing, still seems like something was stuck in there though. but it works now, i put a ball manual shifter on top of it, and on the bright side now my gf has the first short shifter auto. looks better too. it would be nice to get a stock auto shifter though to make it look stock again, but no money.
