View Full Version : KA24DE alternator does not fit on SR20 in a 95 chassis

Well with all the posts saying you can do it, I figured I'd try it.
I swapped the pulley from the SR alternator, added a 2mm spacer for the pulley, drilled out the upper hole. I go to put the alternator in and it lines up. I then adjust the alternator to tighten the belt but the B terminal is right up against the power steering U line (very unsafe against the B terminal).
Motor is S15. Chassis is an SE 95 with abs, not that it matters.
So unless you need to reclock the alternator in the back then it doesn't fit or maybe I'm missing something....

This is a picture of the b-terminal that pertrudes and hits the power steering lines.

My computer is sucking today and not loading pics, but if the steering cooling line is the only clearance issue you can reroute it or ditch it completely and just run a small framerail mount cooler. Summit has them for $25 or so.

Well I might just run out and try to get a KA24de alternator from a S13 seeing the b-terminal is in the back and would not hit.
I guess this is just a warning to all the people who read all the posts saying it would work but it doesn't. It may work with other combinations or motors/chassis/alternators.
Again, I tried a KA24de (S14) alternator to S15 SR20det into a S14 chassis with power steering cooling line.

I just picked up an S13 KA24DE alternator and it works perfectly b/c the B terminal is on the rear and not out the side. There is a good 1 inch clearnance until it reaches the power steering loop.
So to all who may search this out:
S14 KA24DE Alternator with S15 SR20 motor in S14 will not work b/c of clearance issues with the B terminal. A S13 KA24DE alternator works perfect.

Any idea if the same s13 KA24DE alternator will fit with a s13 SR20 redtop? My roommate's alternator died yesterday haha. We have an extra KA24DE, but it's 3 hours away, so we dont want to make the trip unless we know it will fit.

Nevermind, I think I found out the answer. KA24DE alternator fits as long as the pivot hole is drilled out since the SR has a longer bolt. Can I get a confirmation of this?

i ran an s13 ka24de alternator on my sr20 in the S13 no problem... correct tho--swap pulleys and drill out one of the holes
Yup, i have the KA alternator running on my SR too.
