I was just wondering if anyone had done it yet, and if there are any pics around of the finished product. I am thinking about going this route.

Unfortunately its not a "straight swap"

To truley take advantage of the LS1 Coils, you need to have an appropriate dwell time.

SR Stock Dwell is 1.9ms.
LS1 Coil is 5ms.

You can see right from the dwell numbers the advantages of using the LS1 coils.

The other big improvement over the SR's weak ignition system is the built in ignitors. In a sense you are dispersing heat away from a centralized ignitor, by using a single ignitor per coil. This also eases wiring quite a bit running direct from the ECU to the coil.

Allot of discussion has gone on to heat, overall size, and reaction times at higher RPM but it cannot be ignored that the LS1 coil is the single most effective ignition upgrade in terms of a much stronger spark.

Regardless you cannot avoid the looming issue of appropriate dwell time, where-in a 1.9ms dwell will not charge the coil long enough to receive full benefit of stronger spark.

I have heard of setting new dwell times using Basic ROM tunes (contact RS Enthalpy), but the most standardized way i know to do it is to use a standalone like the Haltech which easily lets you set dwell time. I also sell the LS1 coils.

As far as arrangement of coils and plug wires, the shorter the better, while balancing ambient heat soak against the coils.

I hope this helps in what you are after. I think Baby was using an LS1 setup with his car for a while.

just wanted to add one more thing.

I call OFFICIAL BS on the split fire coil packs. The quality of spark is determined by its ability to retain and disperse heat as it holds a higher dwell.

So the split fire in a sense is NO upgrade, because higher dwell has not been dictated by the ECU, making them a WORTHLESS OEM upgrade.

I have never seen a recommended dwell on these... anyone?
