I just got done reading about the C-130 and how it releases flares to repel heat seeking missles. The pattern that the flares make has earned the C-130 the nickname "Angel Decoy." Anyway, I thought it was really cool. Here's some pictures.

Yes, it does look really cool.
But I think this looks even cooler from an AC-130 Spectre Gunship.

that looks freakin sick...looks like an arch angel as it stops mid air (or atleast how they are portrayed). i'm going to have to research this plane now.

I wonder how many military members (or just people of any kind) who are unfamliar with the C-130, and the purpose of flares, and what they are in general, see that and start to shit themselves thinking that something MUST be seriously wrong. haha

Lord, there's been so many C130s rolling down so many strips...
:keke:

I never actually flew in one until a few years after I got out. I only got to fly in a CH46 while I was in. That was only slightly terrifying.

You fellas should read about the B-1 Bomber's countermeasures. I load these for a living and the whole system is pretty cool. B1-Bomber and USAF ftw

:keke: Every time I think about about the B1 and the bomb bay I laugh. On a det in Guam, we had a pilot that got a tour...dunno how but he did. He came back and was all excited and had this to say in the gayest voice EVAR (his call sign was "Mango" like off of SNL)

"OMG did you guys see inside those things?"
"NO?"
"OMG THEY Were so HUGE it was SILLY!"

Yeah...I'll never forget that! hahaa. B1's are the shit!

When I was on the AF, we would refer to cargo planes as trash haulers. Nics pics! :) Search for the C-17 pics. Much better. GO USAF!

you do know the c-130 is the only aircraft that can drop the largest conventional bomb right?

besides, not all c-130s are trash haulers
gunships
P models (mid air refuelers)
Radio jammer and surveylance
weather
etc etc etc variants

They have a bunch of c-130's here at the base in Martinsburg, WV. i wish i could see that kind of stuff around here that would be kickass. Now they just fly around real low and make alot of noise. They just did a shitload of work to the base to prepare for the C-5's that are coming here wich are massive and alot louder.

What that is:

An AC-130 is circling over head in that picture. Every 5th shot it fires from it's guns is a "tracer". That time lapse photo shows all the tracers at once as it mows down whatever offending targets are on the ground below. :rawk:

Stand up, buckle up, shuffle to the door. Jump right out and shout MARINE CORPS!

all they need now is somthing other then mesh netting as seats... I got sick and tired of a strap riding up the crack of my a$$ and not being able to move cause we are all packed in like sardines with 100lbs packs on our laps.

God damn i love the Marine Corps.

See, now that's the problem with everyone singing that cadence. They always sing it wrong! Hahaha

If you stand up, and then buckle up, you aren't shuffling anywhere but back down into your seat. It's "Stand up, HOOK up, shuffle to the door" in reference to HOOKING up you rip cord to the static line. :)

C-130 is in the same line up ass "Little Yellow Bird", "Up from a Sub 60ft below", "Up in the Morning with the Rising Sun", and a few others. They are used Corps wide at every unit run. Ooh-Rah!

Its only a matter of time before they create break away armor and transforming planes. The question is.. Are you ready for the Zentrati attack?

In other words not something you want to be in the path of when it decides to demonstrate its firepower. lol

My 8 years in the Corps its always been buckle up, IE your harness and pack system. As used in HALO and HAHO. But seriously... what two PT NCO's say it the same?

One of my personal favorite. Hopefully no one takes offense since I respect every branch of the service with equal amount of respect for what each one does. carry on.

Hey Hey.... Army what are you doing
get out of your tanks and follow me
we are the corpsman in cammie green

Hey hey.... Air Force what are you doing
get out of your golf carts and follow me
we are the corpsman in cammie green

hey hey.... Coast Guard, puddle pirate coast guard
get out of your thing a lings and follow me
we are the corpsman in cammie green

Hey hey..... Marine Corps, bullet spunging Marine Corps
Spunge up your bullets and follow me,
We are you saviors in cammie green.

Ooh-Rah Semper Fi, do or die

^There are tons of versions of that...

My favorite is actually an army dual cadence.
I was walking down the street one day,
When I met this stranger,
He said he’d make a man of me,
He said I’d be a Ranger,

Sung by PT NCO: “Recoooooon” for 8 counts
Platoon: One, Shot, One Kill.

Lying in a trench today,
A man shot in the head,
The Medic says he’ll be OK
But we all know he’s dead

Repeat

These are the only two verses I remember, and they aren’t even in order, it starts off with that first verse, then goes into a verse about training, then a verse like how they kick butt, then a battle, then his buddy dying, then pushing on, and lastly bringing everyone home. I raped it and changed it to a Marine Corps version when I was a PT NCO and everyone loved it. But I’ve never been able to find an original version… if I could find my old Ranger buddy I would love to get the original of this.

When I get to heaven
St. Peter's gonna say,
how'd you earn your living boy,
how'd you earn your pay?
I'll reply with a lot of anger,
made my living as an airborne ranger
blood, guts, n' danger
that's the life of an airborne ranger
When I get to hell
Satan's gonna say,
how'd you earn your living boy,
how'd you earn your pay?
I'll reply with a fist to his face,
made my living laying SOULS to waste!

Thats was actually one of the main reasons the C-17 was designed. To be able to land on dirt runways and very very short ones and still be able to take off on them being that they are short. Yes the C-130 still does play a HUGE role in todays military. Awesome versitle aircraft!

Try being a passenger in a LC-130, landing on skiway. Spent five years doing a commute from New Zealand to Antarctica at least 4 times a years. The most miserable 8 hours I've ever spent.
