Help - Keep Drifting Alive In Northern California!

Help us spread the words. Tell everyone! Business owner, Parents, anyone! We would really appreciate it.

KEEP MOTORSPORTS ALIVE. KEEP DRIFTING ALIVE.

There is a direct threat to motorsports here in Northern California. The Board of Supervisors of Alameda County is considering a ban the sport of Drifting at Altamont Motorsports Park. Their rationale for this is the perception that drifting is about street racing, drugs, side-shows and gangs… a perception we have always had to fight. Well, here’s our chance to show Alameda County (and the national media) that we are NOT associated with any of these items. Here is our chance to announce that drifting is a legitimate sport that is enjoyed by lawyers, students, engineers, truck drivers, store owners – every possible segment of the community, as well as by women and men.

In the 30+ drifting events previously held in the Bay Area over the last three years, not once have the Police been involved; not once has any driver been seriously injured on the track; and, not once has any controlled/uncontrolled substance been used at any event. It is apparent that Alameda County is unfairly profiling the drifting community. We are being discriminated due to race, age, and gender. Simply because over 80% of our enthusiasts are minorities, young and male, we are classified as "a threat" to the community. In some ways, this is exactly the same “profile” that was applied to drag racers in the 1960’s… which is now an internationally recognized, multi-billion dollar segment of the motorsports community.

Any of us can attest that if Alameda County is successful in banning drifting at Altamont Motorsports Park, it will provide conditions that could do tremendous damage throughout Northern California. Parents, police officers, drift drivers, educators, and business owners agree that if drifting is ban from Altamont Motorsports Park, it will create a condition in the Bay Area that will actually promote illegal street racing and promote other unsafe activities by young people. If drifting is not allowed, where will young drivers practice drifting, road racing, or other forms of motorsports around the Bay Area? And then, what’s next to go? Road racing? Skateboarding? Street rods?

Drifting is yet another form of motorsport in which anyone with an interest can enjoy their love of cars, speed, competition, etc. Altamont Motorsports Park and its new owners have, over the course of the last year, provided us a safe and controlled means to practice and compete. THEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT! OUR SPORT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT! We need your support to show Alameda County that this is important to us, to the business community, and to our local communities.

Tell them how much money you spend (especially in Alameda County) supporting businesses that support drifting and Altamont Motorsports Park. Tell them how you obey traffic rules when traveling to or from Altamont Motorsports Park.

I know a lot of you guys come from practicing on the streets, shit i've been out there with you guys. I remember tearing it up in hayward industrial areas a few years ago, running from the cops etc.

Without a local place to practice legally I really have to say it's tempting to get back on the streets. but fuckin every illegal session i've been to, someone ends up towing their car home. That is a fact. I hope we can sway Alameda county somehow to give us back what is much needed in the Northern California.

On another note, I really wonder how much longer Altamont Raceway will be around. With the huge growth of Mountain House expected....that can be death to any track. People build houses by race tracks, then complain of noise pollution. :bs:

Why are people giving up ? Drifting as far as I know is pretty much accepted everywhere but altamont ? Its a race track that involves motor sports. We will get it back there I'm shure of that. Drifting can make the altamont more money than nascar. Just for altamont to host a nascar style event 80k automatically goes to nascar then they make profit after that. It just doesn't make since how irwindale can hosts a whole bunch of events and altamont gets denied? I live in Tracy and i do admit it was nice to seriously drive 2 miles to the track, every Thurs and the drift battle events and practices was really fulfilling my need in drifting. We have to figure something out to get this location back. The crazy part is my girlfriend is more upset about it then i was... i was just kinda disappointed and shocked personally! I think gathering all the bay area drifters would be a cool idea... but where and what ? protest ? picketing ? :)

However I believe it would be good to start a dialouge between the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and DxB, I'm sure they would be willing to help us find an alternative.

It seems to me that those complaining made a bunch of accusations without any evidence. The biggest salt on the wound: How in the fuck are you going to ban racing on a racetrack? Thats like banning driving on the freeway. Totally outside of logic and reason.

This whole affair reeks of foulplay and it is probably very likely that someone on the Board was paid off for this decision. The red flag is that drifting is only banned at Altamont but no where else in the county. WTF is the sense in that? For chrissakes, they serve alcohol at Nascar events and we're lucky if someone brings a cooler of water for us. No one is high or drunk or fighting at any drift events. Again, where is the evidence??

Remember, we're all still kids to them and they give us no respect. They can make a backroom deal and pass it off as policy. We need to tap into those older people that can represent us and call them on their bullshit. this isn't over folks, we all gotta do our part. Talk to your parents, they'll listen.
