okay, I am pondering the purchase and build up of a older model 240SX Hatchback,( 90-92 Year Range )

i would like to know what all possiblities there are for engine changes,
I have been told or heard that the following engines
can be placed in the 240SX Engine Bay.

VG30DETT      300ZX
SR20DET        Silvia
RB26DETT      SKYLINE R32.

I would like to know if anyone can give me information about these Swapps, If possible, What kind of Work is involved, and if at all possible Refer me to online info about it from people who have done it..

i am wanting to build it up to be fast. i live in a small podunk town, and part of the reason i picked the 240SX is because there are None in the town i live in, and i wanted to find a car that had lots of possibilities, and im sure the 240 is what i want. now i just need to find out what i can do to it, ( ohhh yeah, cost is a Deciding factor, so if anyone knows the round about price for completing the swap also, i would be eternally greatfull.

VG30dett.  Cost is horribly high.  I think someone said $4k without the engine.  He also said it needed a new hood 3" higher than stock and something had to be cut.  Look back a week or 2 for info on that.

sr20det.  Well, there are 3 kinds, a s13, s14 black and red top, and s15.  s13's are by far the cheepest, at about $2300 for the engine, tranny, ecu, side mount intercooler, and wiring harness.  It should run when it gets to you.  Unstable-Hybrids.com does the install, and they are based out of Atlanta.  They charge $1300 for the swap, and a couple more hundred for parts, like a turbo timer, BOV, ect.  I think the final price was in the low $4000's.  The s14 motor is a little more expensive, with 17 more stock horsepower, at 220hp, and the same 205 ft/lbs. of torque.  I think that motor itself is $3200, which would be in the low $5000's after the install.  Finally, there is a 250hp, 205 ft/lbs. torque s15 motor.  It comes with a 6 speed tranny, albeit weaker than a 5-speed, and vvtc, not a big choice for those who wanna heavily mod their engines.  The s15 is over $5k for the engine from unstable-hybrids, and another couple grand for the install.
RB26DETT.  This is possible if you have a huge budget, but you did say price was an issue, so you probably couldnt go there.
The main expense of the rb26, is that the twin turbos dont have the room.  Some people have done it, but most people choose the slightly less expensive, but fits better RB25DET.  Unstable has those too.

I would also check out Heavythrottle.com they have goodies for the sr20det motor. If you have ?'s they are always happy to help. I would recomend the SR motor, make sure you do research on them before you listen to other people opinion. Hope I helped.
