the 89 i just bought recently had head work and a new timing chain installed. it blew a headgasket again, so i don't know the condition of the bottom end, but the head is extremely clean looking (under the oil/coolant mix). i'll need some time to get it off the car and completely clean, then i can send you some pics so you can see if you want it. i'm in SC, but shipping shouldn't be too bad. I'd be willing to sell the head for $100 + shipping, assuming it's in good working condition.
