i throw in my 240 a rebuilt ka. i now i am trying to fix the timing but the engine just seems to shake. the ecu gives me code 11 switch means that crankshaft position is off or something. i try everything to work the timing but i just cant get it from shaking. if anyone has an idea what might be happening please write back.

Crankshaft position sensor has nothing to do with timing or engine operation. It's used to diagnose misfire only for the OBD system. Are you sure it's not the camshaft position sensor? I don't remeber the codes right now but that 11 doesn't sound right.

you were right. code 11 is camshaft position sensor.

Well the FSM calls it the crankshaft position sensor but it's the same one everyone refers to as the camshaft position sensor.
It's located in the distributor, so you'll need to replace the dist.
Are you throwing a code 21 also? You also might want to recheck your base timiing. You should be at 20 degrees BTDC with the dist lined up for cylinder 1. If the timing is off far enough you will throw a code 11 and/or 21 until you reset it and reset the ecu.

you should probably set base timing (tdc on #1 cylinder, and all that), like Dream240 said set timing at 20*BTDC and check to see if it still shakes...i just fixed this problem with my car, but when the CAS is no good--it just won't start...since yours is running, i would think timing is way off...hope this helps...another timing unrelated cause for the shaking would be a faulty injector....

how would i check the 20*BTDC on the engine. also i did get code 21 and i not sure but to reset the ecu do i let it sit 24hours with no power. if anything i just check the base timing but pretty sure i line up every correctly.

FYI - everytime I remove the front plug on the dizzy on the s14 to prime the motor - do a compression test etc - I get the camshaft code - just reset the ecu and the code will go away.
As far as your timing and running issues well these other guys seem to have answered it.

You line up the timing mark on the crank pulley to 20* BTDC, then you set the dist. to cylinder #1. Snug the dist bolts then fire it up.
To reset the ecu you just have to disconnect the neg battery cable for about a minute.
Sounds like you just got the timing lined up wrong and then proceeded to start up the engine like this. Resetting the ecu is needed, after the timing is fixed.
This is all for a OBD-I S13 motor right?

i was setting the the #1 piston at TDC and then lining the dist. i going to try the 20* BTDC.
