I believe the only things necessary that are different than an S13/14 swap.... are you need to get the S15 drive shaft as well. Its a different size than either the S14 or S13. As for instruments working (Im assuming you're talking about your gauges..) I am not positive, but I know the S13 wont. I would assume this means the same with an S15 swap. The emissions things depends on your inspection. IF you have a catalytic converter thats in good shape (and it may be necessary to adjust timing accordingly) you should be able to pass the sniffer e.g the little thing they put on the end of the muffler to record whats coming out. Everyone says you will not pass a visual (if you have one). I dont see why these geniouses at the emissions testing place would notice the difference, but I again could be wrong.
hope that helps, PM me if you need more info.

You will need the S15 rear end to make your guage cluster work correctly. The sensor for your speed is located in the rear end. Unlike the S13/S14 which are located in the tranny.
The wiring on this motor is a pain in the @SS. We were the first ones to do this swap using all S15 stock parts and it was not fun.......... The wiring is nothing like the S13 or S14.
The emission thing should be no problem as long as your motor is running good and have a good Cat on the car.

It sounds like Grumpy is trying to say that it was a pain in the ass. So if you REALLY REALLY want it so you could be soooo special and have: $$$, time, patience, and the right people to do it, then by all means go for it.
BTW: It might sound like a rant, but its not, I'm nice.

Not really. The motor drops right in, just like the S13 and S14. Just the wiring is a pain........................
kanekz, I agree with you in away. I really don't think its worth the money to do a S15, but if you pay me I'll put them in all day long......
I would get a S13 and build the hell out of it with the money I saved. Or go RB...............................
Here's pics of my car done........RB installed>>>>>>>>>>

The only thing w/ getting the s15 engine is if you plan on getting a new turbo you just waisted the extra money you spent on the s15 enging. All of the SRs have the same layout and bottom end and can handle the same horse power so if you just want out of the box performance I still think you are waisting a lot of money. If you have ever driven a sr equiped 240sx then you will realize that the 50hp makes a huge difference but you will...I repeat you will get bit by the power bug and want more hp and a turbo is the easiest way to get bigger numbers (also bigger injectors and other goodies that go w/ it)
but hey if you want the VVT or whatever Nissan called it then knock yourself out but the redtop will do you just fine And upgrade it the way you want to w/ all the money you saved

I helped on a s15 swap into a 92 sil80. The guy whos car it was bought a NEKO wiring harness and it made it sooooo much eaiser. The swap took all of 5 hours from pullin the old engine out to driving away. The only shitty thing is his speedo is way off. He has 256 cams ex manifold, Greddy airinx intake FMIC boost controler full exhaust 550cc injectors and fuel pump. He got
[email protected] 329ps @1.0 boost.

i've never dropped an sr but plan on it and have done plenty of research on the engine. the s15 speed actuator is located on the differential. as far as the vvt thing the s14 came with it. so my advice is to buy an s14 and build it before you drop it, or else you'll be pulling it later. i'm not a mechanic, but i'm definately attentive when it comes to my hard urned cash.

I've searched for this for a while and I can't find it, so please for the love of God don't flame me... I found lots of posts asking will the SR20DET tranny mate up to a KA24DE, which I could give a rat's ass about; but can I mate an S15 6-speed to an S13 or S14 SR20DET? I know the good and bad about the tranny, I just was wondering if that tranny could be mated to a different SR20DET, since I don't want to deal with the hassle of dropping an S15 blacktop into an S13.
