just finished my manual seatbelt conversion and wanted a stock look without all the cutting in the pannel. went to about 3 hardware stores and they finally dug out 2 extended bolts that fit. as you can see in the pic i only have a nut inside that i tightened to keep it from comming loose. A locking washer or two should do it but as for safety in a full on accident. How safe would this be?

thats ghetto and youll probably kill yourself if you crash. theres a reason every car in USA all has to use the same spec hardware for seatbelts regardless of if it is domestic or imported

i would say goes as close to a stock set up as possible. all safety equip is put through CRAZY testing by the manu. See if you can get some stock bolts/washers from a parted out car. better to be safe than sorry, the bolts you have may be just as good as factory, but i wouldnt chance pulling a superman out the windshield.

the bolts i got are stainless steel. The ones that come stock are heat treated grade A stuff. THe hardware store is ordering them in that size in spec as the factory bolt. the current bolts are for test fitting only. My question is with this setup with factory spec extended bolts. will it be safe. its got a good inch and a half of secured bolt to keep it in but with that much exposed im worried about it snaping.

It will snap and you will die.

this guys getting way too much crap considering how many people on this forum have ghetto harness setups..

grade 8 bolts or whatever should probably work (whatevers the best) id look for/find a car with a similar setup of the top bolt thing exposed out of the pannel and fixed (not on a slider like newer cars) then see what kinda gap there is between the b pillar and the end of the seatbelt bolt.. if its just longer then id be safe to assume you'd be fine with some hard core bolts...

i havent taken any physics classes.. but the force of your body on that bolt in the event of a crash cant be beyond what availible hardware is tested to withstand.. ask around to maybe race shops/cage fabricators ect and see what they think

anyone who says that setup is good is a fucking retard

seatbelt anchors should not be mounted in single shear

ok????

every oem seatbelt on the planet is mounted in single shear.

they just mount it flush and don't use crap bolts.

best case, it bends the metal around where its mounted when you get in a wreck.

worst case it torques off the bolt and you break your steering wheel with your face.

I converted 2 S14 belts in my S13 using the stock bolts. I tightened down as much as I could with the panel on. The panel had some slight curvature, but it help up in a 45mph rear end collision.

That shit is going to break off and you are going to have a mirror image hamburger logo stamped on your forehead from headbutting the steering wheel.

If you're really concerned with fit and finish, try heating the trim piece up with a heat gun and bending it so it sits flush and you can attach the anchor with hardware that will actually do some good.
That will probably look the most like OEM.

Oh, FYI, I used the stock bolts.
