Just wondering if the SAFC II that I just got is good enough to run my setup or do I have to get a wideband also?

if I saw someone with a wideband and an SAFC I would laugh my ass off for them doing something wrong right.

Sell your SAFC and buy a wideband then get something else to tune your car properly. No timing control=kabloowy

Is it not good to run JUST my SAFC II? Or is it absolutely necessary to get a wideband?

What mods do you have done to your car?

The deal is that the safc and a wideband are two completely different tools. The wideband just monitors your a/f and I would say is a safe thing to have no matter what you plan on doing to your car. Think of it as something as essential as a water temp gauge. Some might disagree but if you monitor your gauges its very nice to know where you stand because even a car tuned with an EMS will run differently depending on the weather and other variables. Now there is no problem using both as they are two different tools. The issue with only running an SAFC is what is your form of timing control and what kind of motor are you running. Many people use them with flashed or ROM ecu's as a fine tuning tool and for that it does the job just fine. Now if you just went and slapped a turbo on your KA and plan on doing all tuning with your afc then youre in for a rude awakening as you have no control over timing. We need more info on your setup in order to help you outl

Okay, thanks for the info and sorry for the newb question, but all this fuel management and timing control is still new to me. But here's my set-up:

t3/t4 turbo .57 trim
ssac manifold with rewelding tig welds
jgs oil lines
tial wastegate 38mm
ssqv bov
sr20 downpipe
ebay 3" exhaust
FMIC
SAFC II
autometer electric water temp gauge
autometer electric oil pressure gauge
autometer boost/vac gauge
370cc injectors
255 walbro fuel pump

ok. You need way bigger injectors, a MAF, and something that is actually considered engine managment

thats what an Apexi SITC is for

That's still piggyback nonsense, like an AFC. Pick up a used Power FC for $6-800 and call it a day.

do you think 440cc injectors will be fine? And what kind of engine management would you recommend for my set-up?

Your stock injectors are 370cc. 440cc is hardly an upgrade. Think about it. At least go with a 550cc or higher. As for engine management, the cheapest, simplest, most reliable system would be the Apexi Power FC.

Actually, I don't have an SR20, I'm turboing my KA24. So the 370cc aren't stock. But I was told that 440cc would be fine. ANd I'll look into an Apexi Power FC

Hold off on that. There are some people on KA-T.org thatve put down 300whp on the 370's with an safc. Go to www.ka-t.org and start reading you'll find everything you need there.

YES!! thank you!!...I knew I wasn't tripping out because I've been to that site and I've seen people's set-ups with just a SAFC II and 370cc injectors and they said that's fine. But when I came on here and saw people drilling this guy for having basically the same set-up as me for having just a SAFC II, I started to get worried. But thanks for putting my worries to rest.

I realize that SAFC II isn't the best component to have, but as long as I won't have too many problems with it, then I think I'll be fine.

Yup. It's a shame there isn't a better alternative for KAT other than the AEM EMS.

Wootwoot, what does "having too many problems" have anything to do with the fact that your running an inferior piggyback that offers no control of ignition timing? If anything, the AFC will be the cause of any problems you may have. Do you understand exactly what an AFC does?

so your saying I should just upgrade the injectors to stay on the safe side??

What are you talking about? You live in Japan. How do you not have access to Power FC???

I use a JWT ECU for 72lb injectors and a Cobra MAF and there are several alternatives for KA-T guys but if he doesnt go crazy and keeps it at 7-8psi he'll be fine with the setup. Many have done it and many will continue to do it and while I'll be the last one to say its the most efficient or safest it is do-able and thats what hes trying to figure out

Yeah, thank you. That's basically what I was trying to figure out. Like I said before, I don't know much about fuel management or timing control, but I'm still learning. I'll look into the JWT ECU. And I'm not trying to push alot of boost. So i think 7-8 psi would be perfect. I'm just trying to get 250-300hp so I think that'll be efficient enough. Thanks again.
