Okay so I buy this car from a guy here on the forums...1995 240sx base model...I test drive it and let it sit so i can just hear it running to make sure that it was a good running car...so I drive it 70 some odd miles to my house and go to the town I live in...I cruised just for a tad bit and then let my friend see it since he is in the s14 family...Everything is nice and dandy...So I get in to go to my house and stop at the gas station to check my oil...As i pull in and let it idle it starts making wierd sounds....Almost like a rod has been knocking for century's..It is loud, and defintly noticable....so i shut it off and let it sit there...then check my oil and it all is good...
So here's the problem:
If it ran fine all that way w/o any problems, at all...then why would it ALL OF A SUDDEN start doing it? Also...Whenever you are going down the road there's no noise at ALL...its just when idling...
Any info is great info

Have you talked to the previous owner about it? If you think its knock, get an engine stethoscope from harbor freight, and listen to the block. I doubt its the timing chain guide, it could be lifters ticking too.

Okay....so i tore the face of my motor off and figured out the problem...It is the bottom tensioner thats not holding my chain guide in place, henceforth not keeping my timing chain in a tight position right there....So...How do you release a timing chain tensioner??? Need help ASAP, gotta get my car back on the road

hey this is graham. go to this site http://www.240edge.com/manuals/usdm-cars.html and download the FSM for your car. that should tell you all you need to know about the timing chain system and everything else under the sun.
