this may quite possibly be one of the dumbest posts to grace zilvia (maybe with exception of the neverending ka vs. sr posts), but how the #### do u get the transmission drain plug out? i'm doin the swap, tried the ka first to drain out the oil, wouldn't come out, ended up stripping it (don't ask, first time i used an impact wrench...two directions, but i did go the right direction with a 1/2 drive breaker bar and still didnt get it out), and now i'm working on the sr drain plug, and i start to strip it before it budges. help please...

What tool are you using for this? Are you stripping the outside of the bolt or the threads? Basically you want to use a socket or box wrench. Should work using a socket and a breaker bar. Of course, if your bolts are stripped. . . You're up for much fun <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

nah, its not a bolt...at least not what i see...maybe i'm trying to get at the wrong thing. i don't see anything else on the bottom of the tranny, so i'm guessing thats the drain plug. basically it has a 1/2 inch square - a place to put a half inch drive. it looks threaded to me, so i think its supposed to come out...btw, not stripping threads, stripping that square.

Hey u could put a breaker bar into the square. Completly fill the square with breaker bar with Lock Tyte let it dry and have it proped up in posastion. Dont worry about the breaker bar attached to the little round peice untill later=) hey just a creative idea

My drainplug was really dirty, and I noticed that when you insert the 1/2" drive, it doesn't go in very far.
I took a flathead screwdriver to clean out the crud in built inside the square. This allowed the the 1/2" to seat a little further inside, reducing the chances of stripping.
You can take a wire brush and clean the exterior a bit, then spray some WD-40 before you attempt it.
A good clean 1/2" breaker bar with an extension should work best. Apply pressure against the drainplug so the 1/2 drive doesn't slip out - that's how you strip bolts, ect...
Apply torque slowly, and it should give.

Those bolts can be a bitch, Try spraying WD40 or whatever kind of lubricant you can on the exposed threads to maybe loosen it up a little. Let that soak in for a while, then spray some more. You don't want to strip the plug. Then when you are trying to pry it loose make sure the wrench is perpendicular to the bolt, everything needs to be Right angles. I've given up on some because I just couldn't get them out, it sucks I know.
