Anyone here replaced a starter before?

I'm pretty sure it's the starter itself. I can hear the relay for the starter click but get nothing. I know it's not the clutch switch because there's no click when the clutch isn't pressed down.

So has anyone who has done this before? Anything i should look out for? Also could it be the starter solanoid?

Its an easy job if you get at it from underneath. If the solenoid crapped out your shit outta luck, you can replace just the soleniod only. Have to replace the whole unit.

Yeah that's what I heard. It's no biggy because I don't think I'd be able to tell whether it's the solenoid or not anyway.

I bought one from PepBoys... It crapped out 2 times within 2 months. It's warrantied, but if it goes out again, then I'll make them get me a new one from the dealer.

It's easiest to get to the top bolt with an extension and a short ratchet from under the car.. &nbsp;not too bad, but get pretty tight in there. &nbsp;The bolts screw out towards the tranny.. &nbsp;so don't worry about trying to find where to unscrew it at the starter. &nbsp;There are only 2 bolts, and they screw directly into the starters holes.. so no nuts either. &nbsp;This is definately an easy replacement job.. &nbsp;I'd never done it before and it took me ~30min.

You can check to make sure its the starter by having someone bang on the solenoid with a hammer or a wrench while you try and start the car. &nbsp;If it starts when you hit it, then it is the solenoid. &nbsp;(solenoid is the round thing attached to the top of the starter.

yeah, i changed the starter (bought it rebuilt) on my 90 240 hatchback 'bout a yr ago if i could remember correctly.. damn thing has been trippin on me already for a few months! it does that clicking sound too,thinkin about changing the relay to see what happens...

Haha, dont ressurect such an old thread.

For those of you who care (no one) I replaced it with one from autozone, which lasted one day before frying. After I turned the car off, it was still making some kind of death whirring noise. Weird.

Anyways, Autozone gave me a new one with no hassle and havent had any problems since. And we all lived happily ever after.
