in the next pics you can see the cross memeber i did. 1/2 cold rolled steel that bent in a press to fit perfectly. I am going to lay a strip of urethane down between the cross member and engine for mounting.
another thing that happend that i didnt design for, is that the tranny will just sit on the cross memeber aswell. no need to pull the tranny for engine extraction, and very easy engine installs. somthing that actually worked with bonus as well
OH yeah and since the fc engine sits at a stupid ass angle and not in the middle of the car, this one will sit square with the car and in the middle, **** like that bothers me for some reason

Beautiful work... What are the goals for the car?
Should be shooting for atleast 600whp, and a hope for the 9's. It has enough turbo for the 8's, but we are trying to be realistic. Honestly, we'd be pretty happy if she ran a mid-low 10sec pass early in the year. Went 11.87 on 15psi on a T3/T4 57 trim last year with around 350whp.

You need to talk to me then. You're pretty close as well, shoot me a PM.
That radiator scares me!! Thing is really thin.
What size injectors are you going to be running on that beast? Any plans for the drivetrain? My friends TurboII has around 500whp, and he breaks axles, u joints and shit somewhat frequently at the track on drag radials. Drag radials that are nowhere near as good as the MT's.
are those the ceramic seals as well? Things are pricey!!! 300 per seal for my friends race car..not the 500whp car, its an actual race car..Was, it got wrecked recently =.(

The radiator is kind of a test. It has a higher capacity than the stock one, but it will be interesting.
The car went 11.87 on a stock NA rearend. Weird huh? Plans? Granny 3 link 8.8 rearend :).

Well, if you dont allready have the parts....Shoot me a hollar. That race car I was talking about was wrecked and I think they are parting it out. Its best run was a 7.79, I cant remember the mph. But it definitely was a fucking race car. Use to run in NHRA "Pro Modified" I think and use to run NOPI before it got shitty/lame.

All I'm gonna say is be prepared to fix that manifold a lot. I'm not insulting the quality of your work at all, just the weight from the turbo even with a brace and of course the good ol rotary EGT's.
I'm going to try and ask him about if he is parting anything out on the car then I'll get back to ya. Its kind of hard to ask him about. The car was in the family since the 70's. Started as a wild street car and gradually became a backhalved race car. So I need to step lightly as to not hurt feelings..... I act like Iam asking him if I can date his ex wife! ha! it'd probably be better if I asked that instead!! About how much power that car made, just to give you a small idea it had a t6 something on it.
For how much power you're shooting for....You're going to be mighty happy when you are considerably over. hahah. My friends turbo II held up with no problems when he had around 400whp, thats when it was the fastest. Since then it has just broke shit everytime at the track. When it had near 400whp it ran an 11.71. Right around where you guys were
you guys should look into methanol/water injection. Fuck detonation, that stuff makes me cry. Everytime it happens its 1000 dollars down the drain and 16 hours labor =.(
BoostInnovations
04-12-2007, 10:30 PM
The brace for that manifold is sturdy enough to literally stand on. If it has problems, I will really be surprised. The brace was made before any part of the manifold was even mocked up. We got the turbo placement setup and then designed the manifold around that. We got an almost perfect even length 18'', which is what we wanted. I know the EGT's will be REALLY high, but we are looking at this as a test! There will be an SR20 top mount in the works in the $500 range soon, and most likely a KA-T as well.
Edit: The car will be running E85 at first to test out how it's knock resistance is...if we feel we need to add something supplemental, we are certainly open to do so. We want it as simple as possible to start out so it doesn't take years to work out all the kinks. We can build off the basics.
wootwoot
04-12-2007, 10:44 PM
ooo! e85! neato! a rotary's dream fuel.
to solve the problems with bad gas mileage people are getting in cars they should just get turbo 1 rotors. rev it to 12k and push like 20psi. It'll make 300hp and get 30mpg on the highway!! Whoa, gettin off topic.
BoostInnovations
04-12-2007, 10:47 PM
Haha, we hope since it burns colder, it will help with the EGT's and the cooling problems, as well as the added bonus of knock resistance.
But I like your idea...
wootwoot
04-12-2007, 10:55 PM
well....The race car ran on methanol...But its EGT's were still WAY fucking high. If you run to rich the fuel just continues to burn as it exits the exhaust. Go do some serious dyno tuning before any track time, you are going to have similar problems. Can you even work off a wideband with e85 or do you have to do it a different way? With methanol its straight EGT so as you can tell its a bit tricky when if you're to rich or to lean your EGT's go up....Turns into an expensive guessing game sometime..
p.s.!! if you diddnt know, do not run trailing spark plugs. They are emissions related only and can cause detonation. People have been putting in aluminium heat sinks that are flush with the housing. pretty nifty. I thought about doing some really wild stuff like water cooled heat sinks where the secondary plugs go. But trust me on that if you diddnt know. its nice. Any pics on the ports of the motor by the way?
KA-T_240
04-12-2007, 11:00 PM
yes KA-T stuff.
LMK when you want the car, we can figure out a way to get it there.
BoostInnovations
04-12-2007, 11:04 PM
I only have the one picture of the ports side by side, nothing close up or anything. I can dig out the old irons that were ported before, the same way.
Since we don't have an in-house dyno(not worth it up here), I know a great tuner in Minneapolis that I send all my cars to, and we are probably going to be getting a full weekend down there for a few cars.
E85 can be tuned with a wideband as well. It's a pretty general 30% increase in needed volume of fuel, but IMO it's worth it. 4 1600cc's here we come!
I'll have to ask my rotary guy tomorrow about the plugs, but I'm sure he's already 3 steps ahead of me. I know very minimal about them internally, but was amazed by them. I know I had been close to buying FD's a few times, but got scared because of the lack of willing people to touch them up here.
PS! The manifold was just finished, need it to cool down then we are taking pics!

They will be going towards the bottom of the runners. Setup will be dual 38mm Tials.
As for a CA18 manifold, thats not completely far fetched. If we can sell a few of them, we can make one when Peter finally gets his car together and down here. We can do a custom one if just one person wants one as well.

o, and there are 3 rb's in GF, IIRC, but the one probably wont be intrested, his car is already way modded. the other is a s14

Oh yeah, I forgot about the military dude that brought it back from Germany. Who has an RB S14?
The secondary injectors will be placed on the intake manifold. They are already mounted, but I don't have any pictures uploaded as of yet. The fuel rail is being made right now.

I'm sure peter well be down for a manifold, but, That depends on if his motor shows up on time.
It's not the half cut I'll need, but my UK CA18. I'm pulling more $$ than I thoguht on this trip, so my UK CA18 might get here before my half cut does, haha.:fruit:

I assume you'll need the whole car for clearance issues, correct?

Yeah, that way it's guaranteed to fit.
Faber, that'd be cool. When is he wanting to take it? Should be a couple cars leaving the shop soon, but it might be full again in a hurry. I will check on flanges and what not.

Just a quick update:
The car fired up today and now runs/idles. There will most likely be a video here today. It sounds so mean. We even ran it NA open header and it was ridiculous...

Just for an update:
ok for the first test and tune this weekend....
i was out on saturday at the track... and i wasnt going to run my car because it is completely untuned with afrs of base 10's that bottom my Wideband O2 out and only at 10 psi of boost
so i neglegted to run on saturday... and just watched everyone.... ha but it really got to me because a couple of people that were "supposed" to be faster than me at 10psi were only pulling mid 13's with 117-119 traps.... and touched a high 12 on only one pass = sad and me wanting to run
and one was a whipple cobra that i watched dyno 537 wheel earlier that day
and the other was a gt32 KA24 240 at 20psi
well so on sunday i got my cooling panels done and headed to the track late in the afternoon.... needless to say i was about the only one there.
i only have the NA rear still and i really jsut wanted to see where i stood so i went wtih soft launching, i just slipped the clutch....
on the first pass of the season i ran a 12.4 at 109 with a sixty foot of 1.9 at 10psi of boost.... ran a couple more times with similar results back to back data logging
we turned the boost up a little to 14psi and was in the staging lines... but the track had computer difficulties and shut down the track(it was late evening)... or we would of had a 11 sec pass for sure on easy launches... the car pulls excellent at 14psi, compared to 10psi... i am very very satisfied... that compressor is not even in its efficiency range at those low of boost levels
and here is the shitty vid of the first run...... 1.9 60ft.... 10psi, not to shabby, now time for boost and tunning
oh yeah and that smoke is my clutch ..... just launching soft rolling off the clutch...

Well, Matt said it's hard for us to maintain a long distance relationship, so I guess I'll have to swing by tomorrow.
I'm giving you a heads up, be ready to pick me up about 20 miles north of Fargo.:hs: The POS12 has never made the run to Fargo, and I am not sure she will make it on a single tank since it's running rich as hell and I have no radio. (Which leads to insanity and me driving into a grain silo)
All kidding aside, I'm aiming to be there around lunch time.

so a 1.9 60' with a soft launch and slipping the clutch? I dunno about that, sounds like a pretty hard launch to me

Lol, I know what you are saying, but it pulled a 1.6 with 7.5'' wide slicks on a 57trim. You can see the smoke from the clutch slipping. Could have been a lot harder basically.

I was the KA-T 240 and was running 18psi. I took it easy and ran
[email protected] no launching just babied it out the hole and had some hardcore traction issues.
This car will be fast. You best take me for a ride.
