With my on going bogging I am highly considering getting a newer KA. Since S14 has OBD II I figured diagnosing problems will be easier in the future. On a scale 1-10 1 being taking OG motor out and back in to 10 being an RB26 swap how would you rate S14 KA to S13.

depends what you want... s14 ka has higher compression and less agressive cams? than s13 KAs.

s13 ka's are old. get an s14 ka and put s13 cams but keep it obd1

generally less miles. So in that respect they're a little better.

do you plan on doing any swaps? because in the end... if a different motor is going to be in there anyways - choose the body style you like better. =P

I love S13 hatchbacks but my motor is old, oily, and all around peice of shit. I do like the 97-98 S14s I beleive. The ones with the creased hood and all around more aggresive look. I'll get one eventualy so I can say I prefer one over the other. So can I use my current harness with little or no mods for s14 ka or is it best to just use s14's harness?

Dude if you cant solve a problem on an OBD I motor you dont need to be around an engine at all. Swaping in an ODB II motor is not going to make you a better mechanic

They are the same motor except for small changes like cams...
Is one better than the other, not at all...
Just get a low mileage one if you can find one... But if not, then just rebuild one...
Here is a post I made on the rebuild I am doing on my KA... I should have it done in the next two weeks...

How is 9.5:1 higher than 9.5:1? Same compression ratio for all 91-98 KAs. Check your facts before posting dribble.
To the OP, any KA you put in will use your existing harness and ECU, so you won't gain anything by going OBD-II unless you use those parts, and OBD-II, since we're opening your eyes, is strictly a diagnostic program for emissions related problems. You won't gain anything unless it's not passing smog, typical issues like IACV, MAF, CMPS, CTS, etc. will not trigger a CEL or show up in an OBD-II scan. The ECU's own onboard diagnostics, the CONSULT system, will, and you already have that. The only benefit to an S14 engine is possibly lower miles, but you will still use a lot of your existing parts anyway. The best bet is to refresh your own engine with bearing, rings, seals, and gaskets, all of which can be done in a weekend for about $400, giving you essentially a zero mile engine.

Thanks alot. I should be able to rebuild it for even cheaper than that. NikeBoy thanks for link.
