The AC in my 240 is not functional the light for the button doesn't even turn on when you press it down. I already checked the fuse... Does anybody else have this problem? Or is it just me? anyone know what might bethe problem?

It sounds like your fan switch on your climate control unit. I'd suggest to get a service manual and do the flow chart to determine exactly what the problem is.

Light will not come on if there is no charge. Convert to 134a or get a shop to recharge with r-12.

What if the light turns on and the compressor doesn't engage? Occassionally, mine will engage and blow cold air for a short period of time, then back to hot. Sometimes it engages and all you get is hot air. The rest of the time, the light comes on, but there is change in load, like the compressor doesn't engage!?

there are MANY reasons why an A/C compressor will shut off. there is a thermal switch on it, for one, and if the system gets too hot, it shuts off. the FSM dedicates MANY pages to diagnosing this system. i'm not going to attempt to explain it here. either dowload one online or buy a paper copy. chilton's might even have this stuff. or just take it to midas and pay them some money <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
oh, but the thermal switch is an easy fix. but that doesn't sound to me like it's your problem. it sounds like yours is overheating due to either low refridgerant, or some other problem. that's why it's shutting off and blowing hot air.

False... the a/c light is an electrical connection and will come on whether there's freon (R-12 or R134a) in the system.

If the compressor doesn't engage, you could either have a bad compressor clutch, bad a/c relay, or bad high/low pressure switch. The cheap way is to create a fused jumper bypassing the a/c relay, the compressor should come right on and cold-air should blow out the vents. If the compressor doesn't come on,... look into having the comp. clutch replaced.
