The car is going on the dynamics rolling road tonight for some updated mapping. Matt has been waiting all winter to remap this thing. I had it on there a few nights ago to test the new gearbox and everything works great. The clutch had to be modified to accomidate the dogbox with new plates from quarter master (we'll see how they hold tonight as they are different dimensions than the original OS plates). The shifter worked out great and it is unbelievable how fast you can shift with it. I should be able to log shift speed and compare it to last year.
Additional changes have been made to the rear suspension, aero and intake side of the engine (which should yield more top end performance). Thanks to
[email protected] and
[email protected] Parts for helping out this season. I am really excited (honestly) to try out both company's parts. Kuah provided me with a set of Z32 rear upright rose joints that should cure my travel limitations I was having with the aluminum busings. Endless matched a set of pads to my car considering every variable from the car's total weight to braking style. We've had two events cancelled this week due to snow so we have to wait until the 24th to get on the track.

Thanks for the comments guys. Hopefully the car will be faster this year.
The rear diffuser is modified a bit for a shallower angle but the flat bottom is still being worked on. For now the front splitter and rear diffuser will have to be good for the beginning of the season.

what events do you go to in the Boston area? I'm in MA as well, and as for the snowstorm, sorta screwed up my plans on working on the 240 :( not too happy about hearing about 6-12 inches here...

Here is a vid of going through the gears on the dyno. The ratios are so f-ing short. I've watched it like 20 times and I can't get over it.

I am amazed... what kind of education do you have with cars?
I have a degree in Multimedia but have been involved with motorsports for 12 years. I'm very finatical about specs and info on rally and circuit race cars and have been that way since a young age. I have no formal education in the automotive industry, just experience working and competing in motorsports.
I'm still running the Evo 6 16G HRA turbo and will probably go to a GT30 based setup next season. The water injection is all there but will not be mapped yet as I just want to get the car at the same power level as it was last year but not taper off at higher rpms. When the water injection is running it will only be used above 24 psi of boost.
Laxplaya,
The "local" events are at NHIS/Loudon and Lime Rock Park but monday/tuesday and thursday of this week were all cancelled because of the damn snow. The next day out for my car will most likely be on the 24th at Watkins Glen in NY. We have a rally in oregon on the 22nd and get back that monday morning at 6am so we are going to miss the first day.

Kognition,
If we make it out to the west coast (I'm hoping we do later in the year) you'll have to give me some feedback on my homemade aero parts. I'm sure there are some improvements to be made but just have no idea where they are.

On the subaru, I made the intake manifold, IC piping and twin scroll uppipe/3.5" dp, but Quy (our engine builder/perfectionist) has essentially built the whole car himself. Gold Advan RS 18x9.5s will finish the exterior off well. White w/ gold wheels is the ultimate subaru race/rally look imo.

I will be coming out there for the east coast Redline Time Attacks Bill.
It's trial and error as i am sure you know. It's just learning from the parts you make that becomes the challenge, and improving on them. I was pretty happy to pick up the new copy of Modified to see our sponsored 350Z getting some props in the Time Attack coverage from Cali Speedway. That car ran our splitter/diffuser setup. And i went thru several prototypes before getting it where i was happy. At the moment i am prepping a roof clip for a carbon fiber
roof replacement on my S14. I should see a minimum 50lb weight reduction. And the clip weighs like 65lb's. I know i'm going to feel that on the track, fingers crossed.

bill its russ, im loving the updates! the sti has come along way since i saw it a short while ago. by the way my car is running great, however, i was wondering if you had any comparative dyno numbers with your dyno yet? im asking because i got on a dyno for a local nh dyno day the other week and was somewhat surprised with the outcome, ill shoot you a pm to fill you in. keep up the great work, and hopefully they stop with these stupid monday tuesday events haha.

Are you going to add some strakes/vanes/vortex generators/whatever you want to call them under the front diffuser to fight against flow separation? I've heard that's the way to do it. DTM cars and such use them.

it's a general purpose 10 ton press we use on gears, wheel bearings etc.

Im going to watkins glen at the end of the month and should see how well it does on the straight there. One of our customers was saying he hit 135 in a 2.5RS subaru on the straight so...

Bill, sorry if I missed the info previously, but what final drive are you running in the 240sx?
Also, you install a diffuser on the rear before taking it to track - right? I'm sure this is the case but all the pics of the car I can think of have no diffuser, and I imagine that open area at the back would act as a huge source of lift.

The rear pillowballs are made by SPLparts
MrM.
I am running the stock final drive @ 4.10. The diffuser goes on at the track. It can't make it without touching in the shop here:doh:

I guess a different final drive isn't in the cards, then. I wonder what the top speed of the Maxipad could be with a 3.69 final drive... :D

04-12-2007, 03:25 PM
If the maxipad had Bauer behind the wheel it could hit 265 with the current setup no problem:)

ive been 150mph after the "S's" @ the glenn. I think 155 top speed will be about right. that back straight @ VIR ive been almost 160 i beleive. No datalog, just a quick glance down.:D

I was going to say why not run a 3.90, should be perfect for pretty much any track, or have two pumpkins prepared with lsd and different finals for different tracks for assured ass kicking

Matt finished remapping the autronic ( no water injection yet) a few nights ago and the car made pretty much the same hp as before but loads more torque. Last years power was 335whp and 320ft/lbs on a dynojet (the car was originally mapped on a mustang at steady state but we brought it to a local dyno to map for a higher boost level) and on our dyno dynamics its now 322whp and 356 ft/lbs(which reads ~13% lower than a dynojet). Pretty much the only change was the intake manifold. I was hoping to increase top end with the larger plenum size but the turbo won't hold boost up high. Its almost like some of the VNT turbo boost graphs. I've been planning on making a new exhaust manifold next winter and will have to consider runner length and diameter.
I'm really exicited to get this on the track again if the weather ever turns nice (its supposed to be 38 for the marathon tomarrow!) After Watkins Glen there are some NHIS test days and I am going to try and make one of them in early may.
G6, here are some photos:
