I'm getting the rest of my 5 speed swap prepped before I get my motor and tranny and I had a ? concerning the cable driven park position switch. I removed it from the shifter when I pulled the motor and tranny out, but I never disconnected it from the ignition. Tonight I was working on it a little more and I assumed that this could be removed, but now I CAN'T turn the key. Is this supposed to stay in the car and just tucked away somewhere or is it possible to completely remove it and still have a functioning ignition?

Here is a pic of what I'm talking about, the top part connects to the ignition and the lower park connects the automatic shifter that has been removed.

take off the locking mechanism that is attached to the ignition. It like a metal block or something, or if you dont want to do that reattach that cable and push the cable inward and remove the cable again without engaging the lock

We just tucked mine away behind the center console. No problems yet!

Easiest way to do it for sure.

*Edit* nevermind haha, he just told you how to do it ^^, i'd go with what he's said.

I like to do things the hard way, if I don't need it then get rid of it.

yea just tear it out, but if you already got the key out(which it looks like you did) you dont need to worry about it anymore. It wont lock again

Yes, I got the key out, but I'm still at my original problem. The key WILL NOT turn at all.

If the key won't turn, it has nothing to do with the park cable. However, there's a metal clip that secures the cable into the cylinder, pry it out and pull the cable free. Now start working the freeplay in the wheel, sounds like the wheel was turned when the key was removed and locked the ignition since it was in a slight bind.

when I removed the cable I pulled out the "U" shaped clip that held it in place. I moved the wheel side to side and that IS NOT unlocking it. The wheel may have locked it when I pulled the cable out. I will experiment tomorrow with a couple options and see what I can figure out. If all else fails I'll just hook it back up and tuck it behind the radio. Thanks for the help guys.
