I know I'm going to get flamed, but I searched and didnt find what I needed. I recently bought ichiba 5 lug hubs for my s13. when I do the swap, I want to upgrade the rest of my brakes, but i'm unsure how much mixing and matching I can do. I've heard a lot of different things, so i just want to know what's compatable with the s13 from an s14, specifically pads, rotors and brake lines.

You wanna upgrade to Q45, J30, Z32 brakes not S14 but you should search first.

Well by upgrade I meant just get new rotors, stainless steel lines, and pads. I wanted to keep the stock calipers and replace everything else.

You should search - that will give you the answers you are seeking because I just recently looked up the information not too long ago for reference.

For rotors, depending on if your S13 has abs or non-abs calipers. For me personally, when I went to 5-lug, I used 97-98 kouki 5 lug rotors (I had s13 abs calipers). S13's w/o abs calipers (vast majority) use the 95-96 se rotors. Some of them found out the hard way since the 97-98 rotors rubbed w/ the calipers.

For the other parts, you can upgrade to stainless lines (the ones made for 240sx) and whatever pads you use for your car.

I just picked up some J30 rotors and calipers with pads for 48.35 (pretty cheap brake upgrade) at the pick and pull today. Since these are 5 lug they would fit right on. maybe you should look into J30 or Q45 rotors and calipers.

Pads, rotors, calipers and break lines are identical from s13 to s14. The only difference is that some s14's came with a 5 lug hub setup, and therefore use 5 lug rotors. Everything else, to the best of my experience, is identical.

Not everything. The Kouki models use the larger ABS rotors and calipers.

Just order 95 240sx SE rotors and use your S13 calipers...
And buy some good pads... I recommend Hawk...

^^ yes, i would also recommend Hawk HP Plus. They are a lil noisy but they brake very well. In addition, do get the Purple stuff...no no not Purple drink.

this thread applies to me also. so all i need is s14 rotors or drill my current 4lug rotors and it should bolt up fine with my calipers?

Yep. I mistakenly got the ABS front rotors for my swap. Machine shop shaved them down for next to nothing, and all is well.

S14 5-lug rotors with stock S13 calipers. :bigok:

i recommended Hawk HPS... although Hawk HP+ is a street/track pad... it creates a lot of dust and a little noisy like the above poster mentioned.. you have to drive the car a little to get the noise to go away since its optimal operating temperature is a little higher..

when i was researching brake pads, some people recommended against Hawk HP+ unless you want to replace your new rotors in about 2 months because of the nature of the pad's semi-race compounds. HP+ will eat through and grind a lot of the rotor away causing premature wear.

but... i am a little conservative when it comes to street cars. i rather have stock then obsene, clean instead of overly-aggressive, semi-quiet vs loud, less maintenance vs changing fluids/maintenance all the time, etc... it all depends on the person.. if you can deal with changing and wrenching on your car every other weekend, then go ahead with the more performance orientated pads and parts.

I have an s13 hb non-abs that I recently picked up and the brakes were a terrible mess. Rotors were rusty, pads were shot, and it needed a booster and a fluid flush. Here's what I did for less than a hundred bucks, which resulted in some very strong brakes. I started by having a buddy of mine turn all four rotors, and then I picked up a set of decent OEM replacement pads. As for the brake booster that was a little tricky. I searched around on the for sale ads looking for a non-abs booster from a Silvia. After a few weeks of searching, I found one. Now if you go this route (which I personally recommend very highly) remember to pick up a longer section of vacuum line as the fitting is on the opposite side of the booster. Anyway, the brake booster I received was a little smaller in diameter however it was twice as deep as my stock one. Therefore, more volume provides more room for vacuum, which provides greater braking power when it’s needed. Finally I installed the new pads and made sure to clean and grease the slide pins before bolting everything up. Then I picked up a couple of quarts of dot 4 and flushed the entire brake system. Needless to say I have driven a few other 240’s with stock brakes and they were nothing to speak of. I am so happy with the set-up I have, that the brakes will be the last thing I touch again until after the wheels, suspension, tires, mechanicals, bushings, interior items, and finishing the body work and paint. Keep in mind this was all for less than 100 dollars but it takes time and searching to find good deals. This is just my experience so take it for what its worth but I felt it was something that maybe valuable to some people reading this thread. – Chez

Will the E-brake system on the J30 work with the S14?

Not unless you use the entire hub/spindle asssembly becasue the 5 lug hubs are not removeable like Z32, they are pressed into the spindle.
