well with me being unemployed and no longer working at nissan i've been itching to do something with cars so i toyed around a little with my sentra to chase down my cruise control problem since the auto-manual swap. and today i was just looking at what i could do with my s13. so i noticed the rust that i've known about and start removing the fenders and whatnot.
long story short i hate rust and i hate my s13 coupe for it being rusted. i really doubt im going to invest any more money into this coupe until i find another one in immaculate shape. I also hate Chicago weather for making rust more prominent!
Sooooooo hopefully once in the marines, and out of boot camp, I will be in florida since im going in for aviation mechanics. I will look for a coupe worthy of what i have in store for it. or if i get to go to okinawa i will bring back an actual silvia since i heard rust is not that common over there.
sorry for the rant but my coupe just dissappoints me in the cosmetic factor. im not into show but i dont want rust either i like a clean car and rust is not clean.

You win some, you lose some.
I was lucky...my S13 ended up being a Louisiana car that had just been brought up here to Indiana. A guy I know just bought one that was originally purchased in the midwest and has stayed here all 10 years of its existance.
Mine has one spot of rust on one of the strut towers, but nowhere else. His entire hatch needs to be replaced the rust is so bad.
I don't know how that's going to make you feel better, but don't give up on the S13. Just go all fiberglass body. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

OR all CARBON FIBER BOdy and FLY OUT INTO SPACE <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'> WEEEEE! Is the rust to the point where it cannot be stopped with sanding/primer/paint or in which case a good body/paint shop cant handle??
Before you go off to the Marines, you could always DONATE the S13 to me. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/notify.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':notify:'> HAHA I could picture it now, "My S14 in the driveway, and O' wait, MY S13 right next to it! AHHH" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
Don't say such things!!! You don't really mean that. You love your coupe and she loves you!! But if you really hate it, u could always buy mine <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

I would get my hopes up if I were you about bringing a silvia back, it's nearly impossible, and VERY expensive (like if you were gonna do it, might as well bring a better car back, ie skyline)
If you're serious about being stationed in Japan, talk to the guys in Velocity (www.velocityisfaster.com) apply for forum membership there (if not already a member) and tell them you want advice on car stuff in japan in general as you're requesting to be stationed there. They're good people and know all the ins and outs of being stationed over there.
They also all have badass cars <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
oh and you could leave it in the ocean for a few weeks and dig i up and drive it through a blizzard and stil have much less rust than i, so you lose this round too.'
and give me your brakes

Plenty of rust here. Surrounded by saltwater, which means salty air, which means rust, just not the floorboard and quarterpanels,... everywhere! There's plenty of cars that have been taken care of though.

Yeah theres a lot of rust in the motherland. But you can still find plenty in good shape. If you're serious about bringing a car back I would suggest you stay there for atleast two years because then you rate to ship a car back with you. Then all you have to do is worry about getting the car into the country without getting it scrapped. Actually they won't let you send a car unless you have all the paperwork to prove that you have made arrangements to have the proper conversions done. Just do some planning and don't wait till the last minute. If you're getting a S13 to bring back I would suggest picking up one made before 92. If you ever make it over there and need to know where to go I can help a little. I know that place like the knob on the back of my head...I know some junkyards that have abundance of nice cars that still have alot of parts.

why one before 92? also if you say and register it as a race car only you can bring it in, or so ive heard. basically its gonna come down to the best deal. either in cali pensacola fl or okinawa.
and for parts or anything i will talk to you along with some other people on the boards that i know (no names though)
but i am thinking of selling my s13 already, maybe around 3-4k im not sure its priced a little over 3k without any of the mods ive doen to it.
who knows i might just keep it as a parts car for whenever i mayget another s13 coupe. that might be in a year or more
