My sr needs a turbo, I already bought a ARC SMIC for it, but I am still trying to decide what turbo I want. I am only looking to boost 12psi (.8bar), I daily my car. I am really only looking for 240-260rwhp. I was looking to get a Garrett GT2860RS but I don't know the difference between it and Garrett GT2871R. I'm kinda guessing it doesn't matter since I won't be boosting a ton; And my only other question was with this turbo do I need to go bigger injectors & something better than a SAFC (like the powerfc) for the performance level I'm looking at?

you should search some people's setups on here, but, you could always just go with a gt28r or gt28rs, which will make the power you want. It would be best to have some sort of engine management, but im guessing that you are running the stock sr injectors, which if im not mistaken can handle the amount of power your looking for. Check out Bjorkluv's old setup for inspiration

a T28 or a GT28RS (GT2860RS) is perfect for your goals. I made ~260whp at 10psi on the 28rs. Anything bigger would work, but the lag increases and isn't necessary for your goals. You can run ~250whp on stock injectors/maf, but anything more than that and you are pushing it. If you wanted to turn up the boost even slightly you would be maxing out injectors and maf (~270whp). Get some 550's and a Z32 maf and a rom tune from enthalpy or jwt, thats the cheapest method for reliability.

difference of gt2871r and gt2860rs is the size of the impeller on the compressor housing.
(compressor AR and turbines are exact same)
rs produce more torque at low-end and faster spool and 71r produce more power at high-end.
max efficiency of the gt2871r compressor lies higher than gt28rs compressor, since you are only boosting .8 bar, rs would be better choice.
i had my rs w/ my stock injectors and max out the injector duty cycle at 1 bar.
but .8 is fine w/ your stock injectors. (~78% duty cycle)
and my wideband readings said i m in the safe range.

I think you should shoot for 300WHP if you are going to upgrade your turbo...
Stock SR T25s will make 255WHP by themselves...
Injectors, a Z32 MAF, and a ROM tune is all you would need on top of the turbo... About $800 more and you will get 50 more reliable horsepower...

They'll make that much power but then it'll be suckin. No top end! No fun. I'd grab a hold of a s14 t28 or something, that will do the job just fine. Call Steve about getting your current turbo upsized! Man, Steve. I am going to have to start charging you for advertising.

at 10-12 psi, gt28rs is more efficient than 71r, hence more power for rs at that particular boost level. you will not see the difference in high-end power until you boost it up to 18-20 psi. if you don want your power potential to limited to 350 hp get 71r. otherwise i think rs is great

Thanks all... Ya I'm not really interested in power. At least not right now... my turbo is making a nice loud whistle right now, just need to replace it before it goes  ... I'm nearly broke right now, but was offered the gt2860rs used from a shop for 650, which I can currently afford, but also need to the exhaust & fuel pump (&fpr) upgrade. I figure I can run at stock psi until I save up $$$ for the powerfc, injectors, and maf kit. Kinda sucks having a job that takes 12hours a day (8 of which is paid) that pays $12/hour :-/
