It's been a long time coming for the 240 and it's finally done - more power. I've decided between the sr20det, ka24det, 1jz, 2jz and ls1. A few criteria has helped me chose the LS1 and I'm glad I stuck with it. I'm sure not a lot of JDM die hard fans will approve of the swap, but search for some dyno curves and I'm sure it'll have you guys thinking. If anyone is interested in doing the swap I'll be more than happy to help you get started. Warning though, the swap isn't cheap. Initial cost is the engine itself (3-4k) will be a factor. Also, the install requires welding expertise, although, you can take it to a fabricator for that.

I just read most of the thread, and the ending. What makes this swap nice is the chassis that it's going into. It's show + go (+ more go).

I'd keep this fucking ls1 kouki forever.

About how much have you spent, TOTAL, so far?

looks damn good anyone know the weight diffrence between the ka and the
ls1??

I think the LS1 is either about the same weight or lighter than the KA since the KA has an iron block, if you do a little search for LS1 thread I am pretty sure it is written in there exactly

Here you go first post it is 128 pounds lighter

Saw this car in person. It is sweet, and the guy who put it together is about 100000000x better than any other bullshit artist shop on here. Nice car, I dug the wheels. What was the deal with the wires and the injectors?? You are speaking of 12v supply right?

mmdb

^ you did? Nice :) Steen Fabrication does great work. The issue with the injectors was caused due to rigging up the LS1 wiring harness and the existing wiring on the chassis. The injectors weren't getting enough power due to the smaller diameter wires which couldn't carry the required current to the injectors. This was concluded by using a volt meter.

The swap cost me around 10k total. If you're interested in doing it it'll be must less. I'm mostly paying for the fabrication involved and the wiring service. There's a few guys on the LS1tech.com forum that're putting together LS1 + s13/s14s together under 5-7k.

If you have time there's a lot of money that can be saved. A few trips to the fabricator and doing the wiring yourself would save an easy 3-5k. I'm in the process of accumulating all that's necessary to do the swap so stay tuned on that thread for the info. After I get my exhaust made I'm going to take it to the REF to get it passed for highway usage. I'm glad to see there's interest in the swap. PM me if you need any questions answered.

I'll get videos up as soon as I get my car back. I'm still missing a shifter of all things *sigh*.

congrats, nice swap, the one here in tampa is being put back together ( Drift season took a pounding on it last year). it is a sweet set up though!

The ls1 does not weigh 128 pounds less then a KA. Put a KA and an LS1 on a scale and the difference will not be that much. Maybe thats how much the car saved in the long run but probably from a car with stock everything to a race car. Spread the misinformation and love it!

So the person who did the swap lied and pulled the numbers out of their ass? (excluding that he actually used a scale...)

Weights:
KA with Auto, Cat and accessories = 596 lbs.
LS1 w/ T56, headers, and accessories = 468 lbs

What did you get when you weighed them?

im pretty sure the difference in weight between the LS1 and KA is about 35 lbs. The KA is ~35lbs. lighter in stock form. There may be more weight savings removing emissions equipt., stock headers, etc.

My 2 cents is telling me Emissions BS dont weigh 128lbs difference. The KA block is a heavy piece of cast. Im going to have to say the v8 is alot lighter. Even tho its bigger you gotta think its has alot less material mass. Im pretty sure they are refering to the aluminum v8 block, The 427 from summit racing only weighs 355lb wet complete with intake carb headers waterpump etc. My RB weighs close to 700LBS. Those cast blocks is a chunk of meat to carry. Very good quality, Just not the typical bang for your buck.

Why?! with the responsiveness of the LS1 you'd get instant power and torque.

even if it was 1lbs. difference we are still comparing weights between a V8 with a 4 cylinder.

in the end aluminum ftw :w00t:

wow talk about bringing a thread back from the dead for no reason.

Kids, go play in the V8 FAQ.

Now that we're back, though, I'd love to hear from the OP about how the car's doing :)

No shit, a 6 month bump so we could argue what has been covered already in the FAQ in Tech?
