So boring.

I laugh though because I get the feeling this thing makes it into a magazine somehow.

Stock looking S14. yawn.

I mean, the motor in there is cool, but, it doesn't have anything else going for it.

Those 33 Brembos are cool too.

Maybe when it gets painted and lowered and wheels and aero, I might like it...but doubtful.

well judging from the pics I would guess the aluminum radiator has been notched in under the core support for fan shrould clearance. It also looks like the engine is sitting on the firewall. Given that the firewall is painted black its hard to tell in the pic if the firewall was modded for clearance.
It looks good but there is more there than meets the eye and its not as simple as he is making it sound. Its none the less very cool but your hiding facts.

It's nice. Very clean, and stock looking. If that's your cup of tea, then I guess this is a special car.

Me, on the other hand, would like to see something more exciting. Stock fans and a cat arent mods... FAL fans, GT2871s, injectors, an AEM EMS, and some aero, those would be mods worth naming the car.

Props to the shop. What's the owner gonna do with his new toy?

How did you put a large fmic on while leaving the usdm bumper support in tact? I had to cut a notch in mine, and I've seen some people who just cut the whole center section out. Anyway, clean build. The wheels are a little sunk, but I guess whatever the owner chooses, the ownder gets.

Yet you still don't address my points which are very important in a swap like this. My guess is your either hiding a hacked up firewall or you think your stuff is so top secret that you won't say.
Either way, your really not going down a uncharted road with this swap. In fact all the stuff you listed as being important has been done by others except for maybe the stock fan and shroud setup. Which is why I raised my points to begin with , that you clearly A: ignored or B: avoided.
Ya its clean, but guess what? Others have done equally clean 26 and 25 swaps.
By the way the car does look extremely uneventful from the exterior and could use a better paint body setup as well as much lower offset wheels and suspension. IMHO

There's emission is WA, but depending on which county you live in there might not be emissions law. The county I lived at there was no emission so you can run no cat if you want. I had a Nissan dealership do my SR swap. I don't know how many can say that. It's lame I know, but rare.

Even if there are no emissions regulations in the county, you're still required by federal law to have a catalytic converter, it's just rather odd to get busted without one.

Emissions test in WA are pretty relaxed from what I hear as well, so nobody really sweats them as long as your car is running on all cylinders.

Good work U.P. Garage

it doesn't look so much stock as it does clean - it looks like how a 240 should have been. Maybe the Autech RB26DE instead of the DETT, that would be pretty sick. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

mrmephistopheles
04-05-2007, 08:33 PM
We were simply trying to show a clean RB26 in an S14, where you open the hood and immediately question whether you were standing in front of a 240sx or a Skyline.

This thread has become very aggressive and mean spirited. We're truly sorry for that. We were just trying to share our adopted philosophy:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4733323399834040640&q=mines+r34&hl=en

Sorry, that'll never happen with me. An S14 is an S14.
I'm never going to question the possiblity of a stock-bodied S14 not being an S14.

I really dig the Mine's R34 and I see where you're intending with your work - I just can't abide the air with which you present it.

Now if thats not true I would love them to come out and show us.
Though as of yet all they want to do is have everyone ooooh and aaaah over their car and give them compliments when they really are not saying how they did it.

P.S. I was told in a P.M. that the firewall is intact and the engine sits 1.25 inches off the firewall and that the indeed like I had first speculated the radiator has been tucked in underneath the front core support to gain clearance. I would hazard to say they are probably using a crossflow sidetank radiator for clearance.

Point 1: What is BLEND?

Point 2.: I had a car with mice problems once.

Poin3: Agreed, it's not a sleeper. I look at those wheels and think, "That thing has just gotta have a twin turbo 2.6L straight 6."

Point4: The car is lowered over 2 inches and is running 17x9 wheels. Actually having suspension travel equates a 4x4 vehicle. A real car must have 20x12's and ride 3cm from the ground.

Overall the car is definately too stock looking. Who wants that? We want a long list of aftermarket parts and an engine bay filled with shiny bits....like this one:

The point to this is that there is a GT-R sized FMIC, but the USDM bumper support REMAINS INTACT! The clutch fan/shroud is another rarity for RB26 swaps, both turbos are in place and functional.

The amazing part about this swap is that they didn't have to use a mass amount of aftermarket "mods" and parts to make it work, that is more or less the stock setup running perfectally in an S14.

The shop is UP Garage in University Place, WA, I have had the pleasure of having them work on my car, and I came away amazed at the quality and soundness of their work, keep it up guys!

I guess by using context clues you couldn't figure out that he meant bland.

Point3: Agreed, it's not a sleeper. I look at those wheels and think, "That thing has just gotta have a twin turbo 2.6L straight 6."

That's funny, because we see the wheels and say, "How they hell can you own a s14 and not know what size/offset/face cr kais to buy?"

Point4: The car is lowered over 2 inches and is running 17x9 wheels. Actually having suspension travel equates a 4x4 vehicle. A real car must have 20x12's and ride 3cm from the ground.

18x9.5 +12 would do just fine, and if he bought none single adjustment coilovers, then he could lower his car more and still have full suspension travel, and not look like a 4x4.

Clean swap. If you were going for the stock look good for you. It fits the bill (sans the crappy fitting wheels). Other than the swap, the car sucks imo. You posted it on the internet. Don't get upset because everyone isn't jizzing on they're keyboards because you did a 26 swap into a s chassis.

This thread has become very aggressive and mean spirited. We're truly sorry for that.

This is not NSX Prime where people are nice and friendly, this is Zilvia. At the least, you should've made your post on Fresh Alloy - people are actually nice there. I mean most of the people on FA are robots, but like I said, atleast they arent assholes.

I like the car, I think it looks good. That doesnt mean its done - there's always plenty to do, and that should be obvious to you. I mean at the least, you should understand that the headlamps on your car are shit and that you'll easily out-drive them at night with a motor like that. Its of your interest to eventually work on upgrading other aspects of the car. But, for now.. it looks very pretty.

To me, attention to detail is worth SO much more than all the other bullshit people here are asking for.. like fancy "to-the-max" wheels, or aero and grill.. I mean, give me a fucking break. Who cares about that shit? (Only russians, but what the hell.. they wear gold chains for chrissake!). :-)

I think the motor swap itself looks like it was carefully done, which is a lot to be said in comparison to a butcher job with shiney bits. But the most important matter, MOST important matter.. is that the car runs strong and actually fucking WORKS!

Either way, nice work...

Other than that it's just another rb26 conversion. Cool, I'm doing a NA-T 2j in my s13, maybe I should just do the swap and forget the susp, body, interior and post up hoping someone will come suck me off.

Keep in mind this is done for a customer. From a technical standpoint, the engine bay would be hard for anyone here to come close to replicating. As a technical exercise alone, its quite the accomplishment to fit all of that in there.

Of course, it doesnt have 'flush"/poke and stretch, isnt super low, doesnt have big over the top aero, and so on. I like all that stuff, but i can appreciate an understated yet very worthwhile car like this. It a clean swap that all the fanboys dream about without all of the other trappings of their fantasies, has wheels that allow for more tire in the wheel well, blah blah blah.
I'd take one.

Not sure if you have or havn't, but have ridden in a r32 with twin gt28rs, I can honestly say there isn't much out there that will beat it in terms of response, feal, and speed. 530 awhp with no lag...yea that's cool.

For everyone else: I love the car. I'm like you, and don't feal that misaligned half assed painted body kits, ziptied parts, entirely tow land slow cars are very cool. I'd rather have a stockish looking car (like I do) that runs well, and can be driven over speedbumps without fear of leaving exhaust pieces behind.

Leave these kids with bolt on ka's and body kits from space shuttles talk shit...because 9/10 of them would take that car if you gave it to them with no questions asked...

Props for doing it your way, and keeping it clean.!

seriously, its like zip-tied bullshit became the standard. being broke and driving a POS car is the new cool.

ROFL

I love seeing those kids..."I've got 200 dollars left in my acount...I just need to get a fancy tow hook, that JDM neon green shifter, and some uber leet fancy dirft e brake knob!...maybe i'll get that header/intake/etc engine go fast part later"

Well everyone here has their own taste. You guys think a stock rb26 swapped car is hell on wheels then thats you're taste. The majortiy here does not. That doesn't mean "zip-tied bullshit" is the standard either. It just means i think the car looks like shit (i dont like stock looking s14s). The same as most on this site would look at my cefiro and not like it. To each is own. Its the internet people. Opinions are like ass holes, we all have them.

theres nothing wrong with zipties. you just need to draw the line between people who take care of their cars and those who dont. and please dont forget half the people here never tracked their cars.

My point was directed at the new found elitest attitude on this site that if you don't run off the wall parts/panels/wheels that the car isnt' worth it...that's what bugs me.

The swap looks clean, and the car is too. Nothing wrong with keeping filth of a car right?

Oh for sure. My comments were aimed/directed at those kids who have only ever done donuts in industrial parks and then claim to be drifters. Guys such as myself, yourself, the Viceroy boys and all them are not in that category, as there is plenty of proof and pictures of all of us beating the hell out of our cars...

Uhhh.. GT28RS, 2871... same thing on what planet?

Sure Id take that car if someone gave it to me for free, I'd probably even leave the RB in it, but beyond that. that car needs another 5-7k in it before I'd consider it cool.

good job on the swap and a pretty clean bay.. didnt read the whole thread, if you did it yourself, thumbsup, if some shop did the work, i think probably the amount you paid them you would have had much more fun doing it yourself and learned something in the process :-)

one thing is for sure, smoothness of the drivetrain is like no other.

Uhhh.. GT28RS, 2871... same thing on what planet?

I don't have much 'large' turbo expereince, but on most vehicals I've been in, the 28RS and 2871r .64's react and spool the same. No they aren't the same, but close enough IMO to consider them cousins (not removed).

My 2871r .64 housing is spooling 20 psi at the same pace my buddies 28RS is spooling his 17....only difference being the top end. Obviously that's on a 2.0

So if thats the case, I'm certain the r32 would ahve been even more fun than it was (as it was already to much for the street).

Sure Id take that car if someone gave it to me for free, I'd probably even leave the RB in it, but beyond that. that car needs another 5-7k in it before I'd consider it cool.

I'll take it back...it's 'neat' to me now, but would be even cooler with some suspension work and real tires :P

The way I see it is this...

I have no problem with an OEM look...IF OEM ISN'T UGLY AS FUCK

and a stock zenki S14 is probably one of the top ugly econo-cars of the 90s

Looks like a fucking Camry

I like it. Swap looks clean and the car is too.

But I'd prefer to have better wheels on it.

I've added nothing to this thread, but just wanted to point out that you can like the car and also want it to be better.

It's still not worth a 4 page thread though.

Nice swap, Very clean. I will give it A for the shop.
And a stock look, well..... it's just stock. But I'm not going to say anything bad about it. After droping 10k to 15k in to the swap, it can hurt the poket to go for the look. And I think most of the ppl will go for performance first, rather then look...
I'd rather to drive a mestup with dents and scratches but RB in it, then have a show looker sitting on my drivevay with f%ckedup blowen KA and auto trany

if you're going to own a 240SX.. atleast maintain that shit with good quality body panels: urethane, carbon, metal.. whatever you had to do to avoid putting cheap filmsy bullshit on your car.

fiberglass parts are a waste of time.

^ im past the point of caring tho. i dont want to rock stock, oem or urethane. just tired of it. aero is like condoms. you are done - toss it. get something else.

as a matter of fact the body kit i have is partially reinforced with carbon fiber. before repaint after the end of the semester i will reinforce completely on the back side with carbon.
