Removing Ball Joint from LCA

Ya so i need to remove both ball joints because i crowned both them bitches (i was angry). ive searched and found one thread which kind of explained how to take them off.

my question is i want to take the ball join off with out taking the lca off. can i bash it with a hammer??? i know there is a tool for it but times are tough for my wallet right now :)

heat up the LCA and bang that bitch with a BFH (make sure you take the snapring off first!)

Take the snap ring off first, then rest the LCA on a solid object so it's stable. Begin beating.

In my experience they either pop right out with two hits or won't budge. If the joint itself is bad and has a lot of slop you'll have a harder time getting a direct hit, in that case use a grinder/sawzall and cut it in half, this will leave you with a solid and flat surface to hit that doesn't move.

I had the same problem, then heated it a little with a MAPP gas torch and it came right out

make sure to heat the LCA and not the ball joint itself. heat = expansion, you want the control arm to "expand" not the ball joint :)

i should have added a lil more sarcasm but i did remove the snap ring. gonna try the heat method next

just remove it from the car. it's only one bolt.
helps to heat the arm itself (expansion and all that jazz)
Also, make sure you check between your legs for a set of testicles after you swing the hammer. Chance are if you can't get it out of there you have no nuts and someone short-changed you.

pdm racing, just get 2 new lower control arms under $70each with new ball joints. That is what I would do. But, with not getting new control arms, I would use a press, and press them out

At autozone they rent out a ball joint separator, all you have to do is leave a deposit (about $15 I believe) and use it, then give it back and you get your money back. I spent so long trying to get that damned thing out, then when I found out about that, i rented it, used it and it came right out. It does require some force, but if I (a girl) can do it, then surely you can.

That only removes the ball joint from the spindle, not helpful when you're pressing it out of the LCA.
