hey i had a question about enthalpy tunes. i already have a ecu tuned by tomei with of course the daughterboard and eproms. I asked enthalpy if they could discount me on a tuning price since i already had the daughterboard. But he said that since its tomei it is encrypted and they have to install their own.
MY question is arnt the tomei chips the only thing that is encrypted not the actual daughterboard???? because i figured enthalpy could just send me some tuned chips and i could plug them in the old daughterboard instead of sending it to them to have their daughterboard put it. seems like over kill to me unless daughterboards are truely encrypted like enthalpy said.
i thinks its bs and they just want more cash lol but i could be wrong
help me out thanks !!1

Enthalpy uses daughterboards with 2 EPROM chips and I think many of the Japanese tuners use a Single EPROM chip just like JWT. I dont think he is trying to stick you

my tomei daughterboard has 2 eproms(odd an even) just like enthralpy does so....wtf is that shit??!?!?

dude... tomei encrypts the bin files... enthalpy doesnt screw people.
its got 2 eproms bc its cheaper to make/do
2 8bit chips are the 1/5 of a single 16bit one, and they're easier to get. also common now are plcc packaged chips adapted to a little board to have em work in place of a 28pin eprom. also encrypted are topsecret, and some mines and blitz ecu tunes.

im not talking about the chips i know they are encrypted im talking about the actual daughterboard. Is the daughterboard encrypted like the chips are ???

Theres 2 ways to do the dual rom setup, one is the odd/even split of the rom, the other is to split the bus into 8bit upper/ 8bit lower, instead of using a single 16bit chip which cost more, you use 2 8bit roms that are common and easy to source, entire rom is on both chips so the order doesn't matter.
enthalpy's setup might be different from tomei, I wouldn't know off hand

if you have the ecu out of the car i can check it for you and tell you which one it is, i have an eprom programmer... i highly doubt there is any kind of encryption in the daughterboard itself... the roms i can understand but i dont see why you would have to pay for a new daughterboard just for an enthalpy tune... check and see if someone local can tune it. you would make more power that way anyways.

if the rom is encrypted it needs to be decrypted before being sent to the ecu, thus the daughter board needs some way to do this, enthalpys does not

ok statik and boostingst both of you have great points but differnet answers to my question are u guys positive about what u said?? cause gst is saying what i was thinking that they wouldnt need to replace the board, on the other hand statik u have a convincing point as to how the decryption is done through the daughterboard.
statik i want to know about how positive u are about your this ^
Duosx.
Find out what the tune is for and then sell it. Get a new, stock ecu and then have enthalpy tune that one

uhh well, if the rom is encrypted, encoded, or somehow scrambled, or in _any_ way not outputting what the ECU can read, then the daughter board HAS TO HAVE A WAY TO DECODE THE ROM... think about it

that makes sense thanks for the info statik !!!

Yeah, Scott doesn't screw people over.
Sell the Tomei and hit him up when you're ready.
