<h3> JL audio</h3>
that is the best sub. imo i have set up polk systems and and kenwood and pioneer but for subs JL is the way to go very inexpencive and loud with a good sound
i have got my old W08's ($100 a peice for a 12'' ) up to 138dbs with 5oo watts going to them <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
the w08's r only rated for 150 watts but when you drop the oms on the sub's buy bridging the amp you rase the watts the subs can handle
my buddy has them now and they still sound real good. 4 years old <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>
ya kicker is nice but who has that kinda money <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'>

Ever thought about Diamond products? They are supposed to be pretty good quality. Or maybe Kove. Kove is real high quality.

Kicker's not THAT expensive...certainly no where near the price of Diamond Audio and Kove. That stuff's true audiophile equipment...kevlar cones...titanium frames, the works.

thats cuz ur running more distortion to them and they require a bit more power to pound when ur given them a mono load, and they dont handle more power they can handle it bridged or not cuz what u just said makes no sense

Dont get the JL subs theyre too much for what they are. Get a Phoenix GOld amp they are really good 1000 watts by 1 ohm. Build yuorself a box with two wave bafflers behind each sub and a bass port in the center. Get 2 xtant X-series they are super-nice subs

You should make a box like this. My bro and I did it only bad thing is that it wouldnt fit in his trunk <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> but it would sound damn clean and erally really really ridicoulously LOUD!

Those lins that look like V's in the ceter of the box are wave guides

I am not a fan of ported enclosers, they usually sound dirty. And I dont like bandpass due to the single frequency they create (dont flame me) I would get two MTX thunder 8000 series 12's. THey have 102oz. of magnet each. And I would get a sealed box. Those bastards would whale!!! You can get them for 170 each at millionbuy.com. If you want my second opinion, get 2 JL W3's. they rule. Also I am no audiophile, but i know Whats on my dream list, and those are 1 and 2 for subs. And I have heard the Xtant hexagonal 10, just one mind you, and It ruled!!! $250 for a ten though...
In my car, I have blaupunct 2 way 4x6's up front, and 140w kenwood 2 way 5x7's in the back. My amp is an MTX2200 and my sub is an MTX 6000 series 12, in a sealed, tuned box. I like it a lot. My head unit blows, It wont play burned CD's because it is too old, but It is an alpine, and its got 180watts, so it could be worse. If i had the money i would upgrade it. But as it is, I need to buy repais for my recent curb incident.

I HAD two 12 inch Orions in the trunk but the rattle was so annoying I got two 10 inches installed in my rear panels. But my Orions hit really hard and arent very bad of a price , for the money you pay you get a realy nice sub I believe.
But I like my new 10 inch Polks conceled out of the way and not weighing down the rear of my car.
P.S. - The sub box was just a normal sealed enlcuse with probaly about 1 cubic foot per sub , there were two seperare boxes in the corners.

12's are too much for me...I might get two 10's.....actually Infinity Perfect 10.1...just to go with my Infinity 6.75 3-ways up front and 6.5 2-ways in the back. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
But if money isn't a problem trying going for MB Quart they are the best (and most expensive) car audio equipment.

Ok does anyone know what the differeance between open air and sealed box is?I am also wondering if it would be easyer to jus make the two trunk subs open air and the otheres as well and what would be louder open air or sealed box?here is the info on the subs i am getting.
MA Audio's XE series subwoofers are a true bargain. With a beefy chrome basket, butyl rubber surround, and serious cooling, these are some of the sickest subs around. Patented Thermo-Cool technology ensures the motor assembly takes every watt of power you can dish its way, while the non-pressed paper cone is super-stiff and light for great transient attacks. 2" Kapton voice coil former can handle mind-boggling power and heat, so the slot-vented motor structure and has its work cut out for it. Chrome-plated basket helps contain the madness while looking super-sweet in your trunk. Dual 4-ohm voice coils can be wired together for a single 2-ohm or 8-ohm load.
Features
Chrome-Plated Basket
Non-Pressed Paper Cone
2" Butyl Rubber Foam Surround
High-Temp Kapton Voice Coil Former
Patented Thermo-Cool Slot Vented Motor Structure
60 oz. Double Stacked Strontium Magnets
Dual 4-Ohm Voice Coils
Chrome-Plated Push Terminals
Rubber Mounting Gasket
Mounting Depth: 4"
Subwoofer Specifications
Size: 8 inch
Rec. Sealed Box Dims: 0.35 - 0.60 cu.ft.
Rec. Ported Box Dims: 0.75 cu.ft.
Free Air Usage: yes
Sensitivity: 86.6 dB
Frequency Response: 30-500 Hz
Recommended RMS Power: 250W
Peak Power Handling: 500W
Impedance: dual 4 ohms
depends on the kind of bass you want..
if you want precise, acurate and smooth quality bass.
infinity (urgh)
MB Quart
Focal
and higher end stuff built for sound quality not booming.
if you want to hit real hard and be able to hanlde tons of power, i have to recommend alpine type R's, heard them on several occasions and have come to the conclusion that is is very difficult to over power them, and they give very deep and hard hits.
not much experience with orion but i've heard they make good stuff, particulary the HCCA stuff i think. but i also have a friend who's orion amp set on fire for no reason.
if you want to spend average $$$ and get your money's worth then JL is definately a good choice i use 1 12W3 in a flat slanted box built to spec for the tight confines of an s13 coupe trunk and i have zero complaints expect it has trouble hitting where a 12 usually doesnt hit anyways.
if you want crap and you want to waste your money:
sony
kenwood
and i hope nismos14 doesnt see this.... pioneer.
they spned more time making they're stuff pretty than on making it sound good.

I actually sell MA audio and I dont think that it is teritorial(spelling) so i may be able to hook ya up with some at a good price. I sell Diamond as well but internet sales is completely a no no. So they are out of the picture. Unless you want to come to Ohio. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

apparently GT SpecR doesnt know what hes talking about. MB Quart are not the best and most expensive components. Rainbow makes component speakers that are a lot better
sykikchimp

CDT makes the BEST componants for the money.. period. Focal and rainbow are both amazing but WAY overpriced for what they are. Problem with componants is that they will require an amp to push them. a head unit WILL NOT do a set of comp. justice. you could also risk damaging them by under powering them. If you don't wanna spend the extra $150 just to power your $200 componants, just get a set of really nice coax's. They will sound much better being run from a HU's amp, than comp's would.
If I was you, I would buy a JBL mono block amp.. (for the money, it is unbeatable.) such as a jbl bp600.1 or 1200.1 depending on how many subs you want.. then get 1 or 2 Adire Audio Shiva's. $125 from www.ampmanaudio.com and you bass will sound twice as good as those JL w0's or MTX thunders. the shivas simply rock.
If you got a jbl 600.1 and powered that one shiva total for amp and sub combo you looking at $250. This is probably THE best setup for the money..
I really like cadence amps too.. very nice for the money.
Mind you these recommendations are for the budget minded.
Also I recommend checking out. http://www.caraudioforum.com - EXCELLENT site.

Listen to what sykikchimp says...it's like he read my mind...CDT audio ROCKS! The shivas are the best bang per buck sub out there too!

personally i think for the proce you cant get better quality than the infinity perfects, very clean sound, not as loud as some of the subs in the same price range, but they sound better.

this is kinda OT, but i needs to kno.
is there a way to have one of those "premium sound packages" by just using speakers of one single quality brand, like JBL, Infinity, or Rockford Fosgate? i am in desperate need of bass, but i'd rather not get a sub and amp, something that i'd constantly hafta remove and reinstall before and after autoX.
can someone tell me if it's possible to make a quality system w/o having to buy subs and whatnot? if so, what brand and how much am i lookin at?

It is entirely possible to get good bass w/o subs, my friend has Alpine Type R components front and rear, 6 1/2" with 50 watts running to each, and with his system, not only do your ears bleed from the extremely loud yet accurate tweet, it also hits just as hard as 2 8"s, and some single 10"s. As far as the whole 12"s topic goes, I think they are overkill, unless you just want to annoy people by making them listen to your bass and rattles dont bother, 2 10"s, sealed should be enough, I dont know what car you drive, chances are you owuldnt be able to fit a box for 2 12"s in the trunk of an S13 coupe, unless ofcourse it was completely custom. And the comment about bridging the amp to deliver more power, if the RMS of the sub is 150 watts, and you deliver 500, and still crave more, you are playing distortion through the subs, and they will blow in no time, unless you are just getting a reading off of a DB meter. Also, say you have DVC 4 ohm subs, you would have to parallel them off of the subs to the terminal cup, just so you could bridge the amp, unless your amp can handle 1 ohm mono, which not only is it torture, most cant do it. One more thing I need to point out, is when it comes to ratings and shit like that, most of the time it is peak rating, and with amps, even most of the RMS ratings are at 14.4 volts, so cut it down to 12 volts, and you can usually expect to lose at least 1/4 of the power...... I think thats all I have for now
