Honda is selling a new flavor of rice at their dealerships:

http://omidr.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/04/04/s2000_cr_hardtop.jpg

to sum it up:

Very disappointing. I was hoping for something more like a S2000 Type R if they ever were to make one. This looks like it was modified in the garage of a teenager.

Depends how much weight they shaved off and how much they charge for it.

The color and front bumper are atrocious

If it were a real club racer, why wouldn't they make the hardtop permanent (rigidity and safety)?

As for the "Type-R" comment, for the civic and integra they shave weight, add an LSD, spice up the engine, mod the suspension. The S2k's engine is already pretty wound up in stock from, it already has an LSD. Other than weight savings, what more else could they have done, besides paint it white

Doesnt matter.. The s2k is dead soon enough and Honda will release its third sports car to the US via XGA designed to take on the GTR. hmm... :keke:

The new model will be a 2+2 hardtop with a 3 litre V-tec 6 cylinder powerplant developing 320 HP at 7500RPMs. (again, not the V8 or V-10 reported in Road and Track) It will feature the Honda SH-AWD system, GPS navigation, an eight speaker stereo system with an in-dash CD changer and XM satellite radio, and an information system that displays trip, gas mileage, service intervals, and other pertinent data. The sport tuned suspension will have five settings to adjust between comfort and all-out performance. The 18” forged alloy wheels will come equipped with Bridgestone’s newest Potenza sport tire with 255/35 series in the front and 285/30s in the rear. The new interior will be much plusher than the S2000, and offer many additional options to the buyer than the one-flavor fits all approach of the S2000. Power will be delivered to the wheels through either a six speed manual transmission or a five speed automatic with a clutchless shift option. The base model is expected to retail in the $43k range, but options can push that figure to more than $50k. The new models should start appearing in Tokyo showrooms sometime in the spring of 2007 with a US appearance a short time after

Also I would just like to add... S2k with mugen hard top = sex. That is all :)

Weren't there rumblings that Honda could shave as much as 200lbs off? that's a pretty good reduction given that the *stock* s2k is about the 240's weight.

IMO, the S2k is *already* a Type-R model...the RWD expression of what the ITR and CTR try to be.

If only the damn steering wheel would telescope.

It's a collectible.

I'd get it.

Only thing i'd change are the wheels.

Apparently the s2k CR only shaves about 90 lbs, which is disappointing on paper at least.

But also it shaves 2 seconds from Honda's Tochigi test track from the stock s2k's time.

The S2k Cr does come with SUPER sticky tires, so that's probably wh ere the biggest advantage comes from.

Man, that means u could buy a regular S2k, strip out the softtop, install a hardtop, and buy some new tires and have the same thing

I bet this is similar to what the Mazda FD RX-7 Spirit R was to the regular FD.

i think if honda could have pushed out 120hp/l with the 2.0l AP1, then i think it would have been plausible to do the same with the 2.2l AP2. going with forced induction would have been my personal preference, but that wouldn't fly with honda.

ultimately, i think while theres no doubt honda has the capability to make awesome cars (esp with the Legend MAX, Super AWD, and the recent venture into turbocharging). Its very sad that they obviously have what it takes to come up with an awesome performance car, but choose not to do so. I just think they're a bit too conservative, and not up to the times. they're still building mostly fwd cars with smaller displacement engines. you can only do so much with that.

the 2k was great product at an awesome value when it came out (did better than the much higher priced Boxter-S on the track), but its become more difficult to compete with the more appealing hi-po cars from the recent years. almost the same thing can be said of the nsx, and maybe even the type-r cars. honda sucks when it comes to updating their performance based products and ideas. maybe they should just stick to making econoboxes and family cars.

the large chunks on the outside of the front bumper dont flow well, and the wing is dumb, but besides that, i love the hardtop

Mach 1 Mustang, Ford did it right. In person you can't take your eyes of this car, pictures don't do it justice. The interior is even better. The people who designed that s2000 romo edition should be shot.

Btw those aren't factory rims, the ones that come with it are nicer imo.

Its still a mustang, of course I can take my eyes off of it. Those years of mustang are only a pink paint job away from parking at barbie's malibu mansion.

i think the front bumper on the s2k is the worst thing ever.

i think the color is ok, doesnt bother me. i think the car itself has some potential, since its more rigid, has more bracing, and other little ammenities like a faster steering rack - some of that could be nice for NORMAL s2k owners to upgrade to.

would i buy one of those things? nope, not with that bumper or wing. i'de have to delete them and replace them with better parts.

Aren't you a badass non-conformist racecar driver. You won't drive honda because they are all FWD? Or because a bunch of people own fucked up hondas and you're afraid you'd become one of them?

If that's your car in your sig I'm gonna go with the latter.

hmmm... i read in another forum that honda was thinking of producing an s2k type R.. they would reduce the weight so its closer to 2600 lbs and try to up the power to 260hp. i dont know how that's possible as they are already pushing 240hp from a 2.2L.

edit: did some searching and found the article...

here's the article:
http://www.speedtv.com/articles/automotive/newmodels/36002/

"The new S2000 CR is going on sale in the U.S. this autumn." (from the article)

so i guess this is it.. i am dissapointed that it looks like that... i thought it was going to be a honda type R with white paint, recaros, etc.

the front bumper is really gay

SochBAT
04-20-2007, 03:54 AM
Agreed. The bumper is hideous. redesign to make it flow alot better. Color is a bit loud, on the subtle side, which does sound weird as hell. 90lbs is worthless. Not worth the extra penny.

Option was right, strip a few things here and there, buy new tires, you get teh same thing, fraction of the adjusted price.

It's a collectible car.

People never realize that.

If I got that and put rims on it, some mods, a plush toy or two hanging off the mirror/tow hook, and some puddle lights...i'd be having a good hustle. Hell, throw an easy button on that shit...fuck off Initial D, i'm the new hottness.

supposedly the new civic type RR (yes 2 R's) makes 260bhp from its 2.0.

Thanks to careful tuning, this car kicks out a tyre-burning 260bhp. It's the same basic i-VTEC 2.0-litre unit, but Honda has reduced friction on the internals and redesigned the camshafts. However, the greatest power gains have come from electronic improvements made using the ECU to operate the VTEC system.
