for a weekend track car will be it better to spend the extra money on a 2 way lsd or a set of wider tires all around? though the car is an automatic KA , i plan to run until it blows before i get another motor.

Do you already have a lsd now or an open diff? If you have a stock KA, it seems like you wouldn't want to get wider tires with such little power. I would go with the 2 way.

yes lsd for future engine swap

I would say neither....Hurry up and get the god damn tranny swap atleast. Having an auto at a track day would be like fucking a dead girl

Good tires are always #1.

Then immediately get alignment.

To read you need to know HOW to read.

Grammar first. Then read.

well i dont want to do a 5 speed swap cause i know it's not worth it , so i rather save for a sr swap down the line without having the problem to iron out the bugs of a 5 spd swap

for coilovers , the car already has tein HE and pillowball mounts on them

tires , not the greatest but u have some pirelli pzero on them

and yes the diff is an open diff not a vlsd.

so an lsd is a better choice?

a 5spd is the better choice
there's no need to wait for an SR, thats gay

as long as your car is auto, you're not learning how to drive at all

The "wiser to choice" would be English as a second language.

oops sorry about my bad typo. =) thanks for pointing that out but english is actually my 3rd language ;)

I agree, you'll need to do most of the 5spd swap anyway (clutch pedal/Mc/lines/etc) when you swap motors, I say do it first. The LSD would be next.

04-04-2007, 01:22 PM
alright guys i'll put that in mind , i just felt that sourcing out a KA tranny later on buying a whole s14 front clip would just be wasting more money down the road

if you want a weekend track car, stick with the KA. There is no reason to opt for an sr instead beside that you think ka's are worthless. Shit, I'd keep it near stock even. Put cams on it, full exhaust, and then a good ass cooling system with massive radiator/oilcooler.

I dont think you really know what you are getting into.Track days are really not cheap.

might as well do the 5spd swap now. u need the clutch pedals and stuff later on anyways, so better to do it now and save urself some time later on. i did mine and its so awesome. feels much better den driving a slow ass auto.
are u driftin or gripping at the track? cant really drift much in an auto. every time u throttle off, the gears shift up and fuks u over. not very good, i tried :)
and anyways, going to the track wit an auto 240 is like going with a camry :P

Why do the 5speed swap now? Buy a transmission, only to get another one with the clip? It's nice to have spare parts but an extra transmission may not be an option if the guy doesn't have a place to store it.

I'd do the LSD first. I've tracked an auto KA one time before we swapped it over, with the right suspension and brakes there's not a significant loss of lap time, plus you can shift it manually in/out of all gears to rev match anyway.

To add to that, it did have a VLSD as well, that was my point. An open diff automatic would indeed lag through corners more than a manual.

Untill it blows up and he needs a new tranny anyways.. My experience with the Auto trannys have been terrible.

But... Open diff is brutal.

Do what you think.

thanks r240na thats exactly my same logic on the tranny.

i'll get the lsd instead of the wheels first then.

more over track time is more of the fundamental of braking point , racing lines then the more detail of shifting etc and knowing the engine =)

So it's a definite that he'll blow up a transmission? Where's your logic on that?

bugs in a 5 speed swap? not unless your a complete idiot. Its a relatively easy no brainer to do. Trust me do the 5 speed swap. You will like your car ten times more and ask yourself why you even thought about running the auto.
Follow that with some form of LSD ( not the drug)lol.
Then drive drive drive and learn your car. Fuck auto's. useless for anything other than commuting.

This is what my uncle told me when I was a little kid.

Real men who claim that they love to drive, they drive manual cars. That's the best way to drive a car to it's true potential.

If you say it's a track car, why the hell would you leave it auto. Seems like a waste of time. Might as well learn now. There's so much more you can do with a car on the track if it's 5 speed. If you want to drive auto on a track. Go karting or something then. Just a thought.

Dunno why you'd want a 2 way, they are clunky noisey blah blah , i'd rather get a 1.5 instead of my 2 way. i drive around and ppl tell me something is wrong with my rear end...

If you want to learn how to drive and get track time that is affordable, give up your car and get a gokart. Best advice to learn how to drive ever.

get the 5spd first, drop it with some type of coilovers or spring/strut set up, or hell cut your springs, and get your diff welded. and there you go! : )

X2

Just dont cut springs.

5spd conversion + used springs (at least until you have enough for coils) + welded.

Junkyard budget FTW.

For a diff on a track car...Fuck it! Save the money and go welded....Its worth it to put that 800+ dollars somewhere else. My track ride doesnt have a diff and it does its job fine =)
