I got pulled over today in San Marcos for loud exhaust and the officer took pictures of my motor and myself. I've personally never heard of the police officers taking pictures of the owners with the motor. What would they use that for? Oh and the officer just let me go afterwards with no ticket, but the picture thing is bugging me.

haha! i hope not. that also reminds me. the officer also looked in my interior extensively for any aftermarket guages. he thought the gtech i had in my car was an a/f guage for tuning and gave me a hard time about it even though he already inspected my motor. definately a weird night because i've never heard of officers looking for that type of stuff.

Cop didn't know the difference between a sr and a ka. Or maybe he did.
But they use those pictures to educate other officers about how to tell the differences between legal and illegal mods.
Reason for your pic? To know the owner to the car. In case something happens in the future.

I'm taking a smog class to become a smog tech on the side and this is true, I don't know about laws passing but I know that in 2008 california is introducing a new law when it comes to smog. I'm not sure, but it might have to do with every vehicles fuel evap being checked to pass. I'll have to get back to you guys on that.

yea its true, i go to UTI and that what all my teachers have been telling me. Also heres a quote from my friend on running-free.org thats a smog tech.
I found out today that our shop here in Truckee has been choosen as 1 of 45 top shops in California to conduct evap system beta testing. The B.A.R. wants to implement evap testing (for 95 and older vehicles, 96+ vehicles already self test the evap system) as part of the smog program in 2008. Which means if you have a leak (any vacuum hose running to and from the gas tank) you're going to have to find it and fix it. sad.gif
There is also talk of going to an annual program. This is still in the "iffy" stage so no one knows for sure yet.
There is good news though, they are going to phase out Test Only centers, and the new car exemption "may" be moved to 8 years versus the current 6.

i thought that was last year summer, more strict evap testing.
they they find leaks by pressurizing the system.

i think they didnt do a full evap test. so now they're guna do it fully.
Time to buy affordable musclecars.
Dusters, Novas, and some 70's mustangs can still be picked up for S-chassis prices. No smog, no worries, no handling.

First of you should not let a cop take a picture of you, very politely say i do not consend to my picture being taken. Ask him why would he want to take your picture and if you are free to go..
Here is this great video would teach you a thing of 2 about the popo. freaking google had removed it from thier videos. nazi bastards

lol.. weird! same thing happened to me in Sacramento. I happened to be in a "bad" neighborhood and the cops pulled me over and told me to sit on the side walk while they searched my car. Than one of the cops came and took a picture of ME! WTF. He told me that they were breaking down on gang members though so that's why they needed a picture of me. It bugs me till this day!
