Jspec.com should be able to get him a set of NISMO mounts. They are for an SR, but since the two engines use the same mounts they should work just fine.

Exactly what I was going to say. Jspec.com has reliable service

Ya I've been trying to get ahold of Sam at Jspec this whole weekend. I think he is out of town this weekend. Try again and also put a WANT ad in the FOR SALE/WANTED/GB section

Yeah, usually if they don't answer their e-mail, then they are in Japan looking for more parts to buy and bring over here. I always have gotten quick replies when they are in town and they are VERY friendly and VERY knowledgable about their products.

well, it's not going to be an easy job. you need to lift the motor and unbolt the old ones, then bolt the new ones in. be ready for many "persuasive" words.

If you haven't already heard from jspec, be advised these are not cheap like a Honda insert. My quote was around $275 iirc.

uhhh...steve, he already posted about that.

i'm just curious why the mounts are being changed in the first place? are they actually messed up? or is the engine shaking bad due to something else? mounts are not there to "hold" the motor in. they are there to resist torque and isolate the motor from the chassis to make the drive more "streetable". they are NOT supposed to stop shaking...unless one is actually broken of course. does the motor try to lift itself out of the engine bay when you blip the throttle? that's the sign of a broken motor mount. if they are not broken, do not replace them. check other reasons as to why the engine is "shaking like an earthquake."

Of course that was the one post I missed. I was just in too much of a hurry to read yours I guess.

Excessive vibration CAN BE a sign that the motor mounts are going, but it's not necessarily the case. Either way, the NISMO mounts are a good investment.

true, however, i'd rather spend $100 on plugs/wires/filter/cap/rotor than $300 on mounts and a day's work just to find out that it STILL shakes after you put the new mounts in....wouldn't you?

Im 99% positive the mounts are messed...
A) when my bro starts the engine it rocks back and forth like crazy
B) when he hits the throttle it rocks HARD to one side

On a side note I JUST did my mounts on my 200sx SE-R...yes they were a PITA but made a world of diffrence...shifting is so much more precise without the engine wiggling around and such. Anyways i have a fairly good idea of what we are getting into.

sounds like a broken tranny mount to me (which the NISMO set includes). the engine mounts only control side to side movement...as they are on the sides of the motor.

and it should rock fairly hard to one side when hitting the throttle, but not enough to hit stuff.

by the way, mounts won't change shifting in a 240. the tranny and shifter are bolted DIRECTLY to the motor...there are no cables/rods like in your 200sx FWD. the most the mounts could do is subdue the movement of the shifter when going over bumps, etc.

best way to check for motor mounts being damaged is brake torqueing the car more than likely you will hear a knock.

and your on the sr forum right? your name looks familiar

huh? how would that happen? it just makes no sense. the ONLY thing i can think of is that maybe the tranny mount is messed, allowing the tranny to move too much, and shift fork is slapping on the frame or something. i have no idea.
