OK, i have a 90 240 manual (no hud). the check engine light does not turn on at all. it does not turn on at the crucial (for smog) moment when the car is turned on. i have pulled the instrument cluster and all the bulbs are there and none are dead. all the fuses are fine.
is there any other common method for disabling the check engine light without affecting other systems? i would assume that the guy who owned the car before me tampered with the system. now that i have to get the car smogged again, ive run into a snag. help me out.

the bulb probably burnt out from being on for so long. :keke:
srsly, check fuses, but if everything else is working, it's more likely to be a bad connection or bulb than anything else.
Maybe check your ECU wiring to make sure nothing is cut?

i actually did check all the bulbs. i busted out a multi meter and checked all the bulbs on the instrument cluster. i did notice that 1 bulb did not show a resistance so i popped it out, reseated it a few times until i could measure a resistance across the bulb, then threw it back in and it still didnt work. i switched out the MIL bulb for the parking brake bulb (which worked) and this did not fix the problem, so i assume i have exhausted the instrument cluster as an option. all the fuses work (i checked every one with my multi meter). i inspected the wiring behind the instrument cluster and it all looks fine.
let me know if anything else comes to mind.

if its an option, i would swap in a diff cluster to see if it would light up, just so you could at least rule that out

man they're strict LOL, if i went to 2 different emissions test facilities and one place checked to see if the mil bulb lit up when the key is turned on, i can guarantee that the second place wouldn't do that, and would just put it on the rollers, test the gas cap, and kick it out the door LOL.

not if it's test-only.
