Ok, so i went to Japan over spring break for about 2 weeks. When i was there i decided to visit Up Garage which is chain of used aftermarket car part stores. check it out. *Remember, 1 US dollar equals roughly 115 Japanese Yen*
Complete RB26 swap: 79,900.00 JPY = $678.32 USD

And the point of this thread is?
Everyone knows that motors get hella marked up when they are brought over here.

fuck me running.... but the price of shipping adds up plus profit etc. if ur in the military and get shipping cheap/free yea its a deal. for the rest u still have to figure ways out to get it home

I wouldn't say that the motors get "marked up." The higher cost is mainly because of shipment expenses.

^ thats what i was saying. but also got to make a profit, right? thats what markup is

Thats a myth, we can only ship things up to 70 lbs iirc. Last i checked, engines are way heavier than that. I can send you a SR engine set in 6 boxes. You can put all together like IKEA before you use it. :naughtyd:

You probably went to the Machida store, which has an RB26 longblock.
I've been here 3 years and I've yet to see an RB *full swap* go for less than $3k. Hell you can barely get your hands on an SR20DET longblock for that price anymore.

hahahahahahaha beat me to it mrmeph... and that 1j has been there Fooorrreeeeevvverr as well... and we talked to the people who work there and there's no gurantee the motor is any good at all. and theres no mission to go with it (well they did have a rb20 mission sitting there a few weeks ago, but i don't know why you'd pair up a 20 mission to a 26)
IF you went to the machida store... was it at the junction of rt 246 and rt 16??

haha i didn't see the pics. That's MOS DEF the Machida store - right in that back corner by the restrooms. You can even see the security wand thing right by the womens restroom in the bottom pic.
This funny stuff. I wonder if I was in the store when you were. I see too many gaijin there.

I had a friend in the service who had a nice 180 out there...
he had to return and hated to see his motor go to waste since the military isnt fond of shipping a crate containing a longblock.
so he bought a few suit cases and disassembled the block. It worked, just required a few people to load all 7 of his suit cases onto the ride home :keke:

Yea they've really cracked down on shipping parts (motors really). If you have TONS of parts like mrmeph has they'll just tell you no to everything. If you have a few parts its usually ok (still no guarantee they'll do it... its up to the person that comes to do your pack out walk through). If i dont get orders for a second tour im gonna be in trouble hahaha.

No, that's a ¥ symbol.
Please take my word for it.
I've been there.
Seen it.
Rested my ass on it.
It's ¥79,900.
Maybe you're seeing the forward edge of the 7, but it's still 7, not 17.

yeah, thats a really nice area overall. i was staying in a hostel in Asakusa, so being in machida was totally different. everything was a lot newer and spread out. so far japan is the only place i have been outside of the US and it was definately worth every Yen. that country is amazing, people are like nobody you would find in the states. thats probably what i appreciated the most. that in the cleanliness overall. im planning on going back next year in hopes of finding junk yards and all that. im sure you know of all the hotspots.

I said Ho's, not marriage type matrial chicks. That takes time, a fckin lot of time.

Are any of you in Yokosuka? My dad is on the way there now and said he'd try and find/get to an UpGarage for me, as I need a S14 kouki grill and rear valence...and wheels...and coilovers if they're cheap enough. Even if you aren't in Yokosuka perhaps someone would know the address to the one closest to the Naval Hospital? Any help is much appreciated.

Closest one is the one we've been discussing, the Machida store.
You'll be able to find wheels/coilovers there, but no valences or grilles for S14.
