CA18DET harness options?

Have a ca18det with no ecu or harness. Unless going standalone i'm pretty sure i'm going to need the actual ca18det ecu...

However, are there any easy/cheap alternatives i can use for a harness? Could a normal ca harness from an american car be slightly modified to work, or am i just AOL?

You are beyond out of luck. Nissan Japan is no longer stocking and selling the JDM harness. I should know, justin at mynismo tried to place the order for me.

American Harness on the CA18DET. (IE: CA18DE 1988 Pulsar - CA18DET 1987-1988.7 JDM S13) In short, NO. Can it be done...? Yes. But, the ECU connector is different on that CA18DE harness, and the harness layout is much different. You would have more luck using the KA24E harness (8 Bit ecu connector) and modifiying it to work on the CA18DET. You would probably use some elements of the ca18de pulsar harness.

Or, just go haltech, and call it a day!

Add a map sensor, and Air Temp Sensor and you will be good to go.

This will be easier to hook up than any of the harness options above, and you will have an ecu to run everything off of.

My situation-
On a very tight budget
Short on time
The set-up will remain fairly stock..

Still think its the best way to go, and why? Again, thanks for your time

EDIT- JUST READ JONGRIFF'S POST- That is a great idea, but to be honest, that ecu cost more than my entire set-up. I'm trying to build a track car on a super tight budget and that doesn't fit it. This is just a secondary project i'm trying to keep afloat on a poor mans budget.

If that is your exact situation, then I would try to find a CA18DET ECU, and merge together a KA24E harness, and a pulsar harness. If you know your way around electrical, you can probably get this done in 1 day.

sorry, last q- my buddy has a megasquirt that he "built" or assembled. He's letting it go for 300. I'm assuming it would be much MORE work and time using the megasquirt, correct? Would it even be beneficial to use a megasquirt if i'm using a stock t3 turbo, FMIC, and 450 injectors?

What do you mean stock t3? Or are you saying t2?

I personally have a ca18det, with a larger T2 series, plus skyline 444cc injectors. I am using a mines tuned up ecu and a Greddy Emanage Ultimate, and it runs great.

But you have to figure out what your ends are, then you can define your means.

Depends on which Megasquirt your buddy is selling. Theirs MSI and MSII which means processor. MSII is the faster processor and what all the new goodies for Megasquirt will be released for. Their is also PCB V2.2 and V3.0. I like PCB V3.0 as it has quite a bit of goodies on it not mention optional injector impendance choice, so you can use High or Low Imp injectors. I prefer High less work involved. $300 can be reasonable or a rip off. DIYAutotune sells MSII V3.0 assembled and warrantied for around $410.00

Depending on what your planning to do Megasquirt can be more work or it can be a walk in the park.

As for would it be beneficial. Any standalone would be beneficial in any power output. It pisses me off that people believe you need a standalone for big power. Standalones are about precision control over the motor, and extra duudads :cool:

So yes it would be beneficial not to mention it will make your life easier.

If you havent already noticed I'm the creator of that write up, and it was my first standalone install and first wiring job aside from CD player installs, it was pretty straight forward and surprisingly easy to install.

I spent around $500 to install. This included ECU, harness, Megaview, Stimulator, Machine work, and ignition parts. Some were option and can cost you around $340 without the optional stuff.

Ok, finally got it figured it out. Opinions/ideas please.

We are going to use the megasquirt since a ecu/harness can't be located.

Will be using a tubular manifold w/a t3 turbo off some ford(tbird maybe)
large FMIC

We also have some EXCEL(sp) 440 injectors from a friends honda(yes, i said it)
