So, lots of posting here in the Motorsports forum (Props to you all) but dont see much activity with the NASA crews.

Anyone else out there a registered NASA member?

Would like to see if anyone is gonna be out at either Buttonwillow April 14/15 or Willow Springs Intl May 5/6?

Im at least planning on both Saturday's, and more to come of course.

Holla back!

NASA doesnt have drifing, don't expect this thread to get far. Ugh.

Not a NASA member, but I do go to the track/autox occasionally, really depends on money. I might be able to make it out to a trackday closer to the end of april, most likely at buttonwillow.

I'm a NASA member had fun at the annaual cali speedway event a few weeks ago. I'm planning to have my car ready for the may event.

which HPDE class are you in. or are you in the TT-class. I'm hoping by next year to be in the ST class. my friend already competes in ST with his s13, his rival is currently the johnny pag 360modena haha.

and my friend who will be doing my cage is the current honda challenge h4 class points leader. so yah big pressure to get out there.

imma miss april event LBGP is that weekend, and the two just don't compare. champ cars, atlantic, ALMS, DPs, and SWC.

Yeah, i forgot about LBGP, but its Buttonwillow :hsdance: I love that track!

Im still in desperate need of more HPDE before i even think of Comp, but wanna get into TT for sure. New member with NASA myself, so im just going through the paces. HPDE2 just this next time. Ive been out with speedtrialusa and the TCRA guys many times, and now getting serious with NASA.
Hope to see you out there!

Im in NASA and was at the last track day at California speedway. I also went to the one at willow springs a while ago.
If my car is up to it ill be at the buttonwillow. Im in HPDE class 2 right now. Gonna most likely try to move to 3 after the next event!

Also sideview_180sx do you have a white 240 with z brakes i think i saw your car. Did you use to run in the SER class?

sideview_180sx
03-30-2007, 02:53 AM
240sx can't run in SER class. last year they were in SRX (essentially class legal to run SR,RB,KA-t but like less then 10 cars competed), now the class is merged with super touring, which includes previous gen vipers, corvettes, and so forth, just another power to weight ration class. i did some driving in a blurple coupe on some kumho slicks at cali speedway. had the gmc girls at our stall all weekend.

my car is a white hatch with r32 gtr non vspec brakes, and all suspension mods. ikeya lcas. old style N1-pro coilovers.tanabe sways.spl tie rods ends. all handles and no HP. i'll be able to have fun in the corners and braking. but sit back on the straights waving people by.

Im pretty sure i talked to the purple cars owner. He was parked a little inside the pit area right? Running in HPDE 3? Not like its to hard to pic out 240s at a NASA track day since there are usually only 3 of them.

And i understand about getting passed by. I have an Sr coilovers and other junk. I can keep up through the corner but once i got to that back straight it would feel like i was giving it my all just to keep up.

Its about 500miles from you.
Website for them www.buttonwillowraceway.com Its in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere
This track is teh shit! 3mi long, and got everything you could want in a track.
Its up there with Willowsprings International, and you see it often in commercials and road-tests.

Damn excited, just ordered my new tires 30min ago (RT615;s), and gonna finally get to test my new seats and harnesses.
The only thing that will keep me from going is if i dont get my tranny done in time. Its at my nephew's shop getting some new syncrodes.
Which makes me even more excited cause ill have all new redline fluids in the tranny and diff to test out :hsdance:

great to see more 240's going to the track.

if you are thinking about w2w racing it is possible to stay in PTA and not move all the way up to ST1 or ST2, either way the 240 can be very competative. I have done 12 events here on the east coast and have found my lap times even now with such little experience to the racers not being too far behind.

as a clarification, 240sx's were llowed in SER last year as long as they were built to ITA specs, and for the old SRX classing, only SR engines were used. If you run in ST ever it doesnt matter what engine you have, just what your weight:power ratio is, where as in PT classing works on a point system and with mild power work a 240 can stay in PT classing and be more competative in PTA than anywhere else. Before going for w2w so soon think about seat time, moer seat time wil get you more prepared and faster then aything else will.

I'm a proud NASA member, but I'm so busy running our own track events that I rarely find time to go to the NASA ones anymore.

I'm actually looking at an AI car this weekend though, so I might be around a lot more often!

I'm thinking of registering with NASA for the May 5th event at Willow Springs. It'll be my first time with NASA, obviously they'll put me into HPDE1.

My question is how long does it take to get bumped up? Is it one HPDE1 event, prove yourself, get signed off, go to HPDE2 at the next event, and so forth until you reach HPDE4 where you can apply for a competition license? I've been running open track events with SpeedVentures, Redline, and SpeedtrialUSA for about 4 years now with my S13, just stock KA with brakes and suspension work. My S14 is nearly completed, so I'm aiming for a NASA competition/TT license to compete in SoCal Region TT.

Anyways of obtaining this license quicker? Any info would be great!

Thanks guys

I have run the same as you, and when I first registered with NASA I started off at HPDE1. What a mistake that was. HPDE1 & 2 are both basicaly beginner (HPDE1 you get a ride-along instructor).
With what you have listed, id go straight for HPDE3. They will probably want you to list out your previous experience when you fill out the registration.
HPDE3 is considered Intermediate and is basicaly just relaxed passing restrictions. And i believe its only the HPDE3 sign-off thats needed to get into HPDE4. Since 4 runs with the TT guys at the same time, and they want make sure you not some fucking noob.

I just registered for HDPE3 on May5th. Maybe see ya out there.

Last event only had 3 240's on Sat (mine of one them) and the one TT guy blew his turbo on the first session of the day

Thanks for replying "mehsilvia"! Just what I wanted to hear! I was dreading registering for HPDE1.

My next question is, since its been 4 years of open tracking with my S13, my seat and harness have expired. Most likely I'll have to buy a new dated seat and harness to pass NASA tech inspection huh? Thats the good thing about the other organizers, they don't care if those safety items are expired as long as they're in good working condition.

Yea, I've been to a NASA event to watch at CA speedway and notice only 2 or 3 240's. If I make it to the May 5th event, for sure I'll stop by and say hi. Big Track at Willow with my stock KA, I can't help but laugh a little...:ughd:

And about your safety equip, they are more interested in its function/condition for HPDE. Ive yet to see them check or be concerned about the dates. As a matter of fact, the speedtrialusa and TCRA guys seem more picky about it.

Yea definitely, I'll look for you guys in the paddock and pit next to you. Sorry, looks like I won't be able to jump directly into HPDE3. NASA wants me to start off in HPDE1 and work my way up, which is totally understandable.

Im "planning" every event. And im sure they do #13 every time.

And ill have to see about the padock area, ive got a full setup with trailer so doubtful ill be able to park it there. I usually park at the lot area right long the road where it curves off to Streets. Will see when i get there, but im sure you guys are not gonna miss me.

Thats ok that your in group one. Usually you can move up pretty fast if they see that you know what your doing. Last time i went i parked with my little tent near the end of the pit area. When it gets closer to the date maybe we can set up a place to meet or something.

I think we should. Ive got that trailer & taco in my sig, so dont think i can wedge my fat ass into the hot pit area. Well maybe can, so maybe ill see what i can do when i get there for setup. I usually get there early, setup and tech'd right away.

But I do have a couple of chairs, cooler, pup-shade, etc . . . So yeah, we should all paddock together.

Make a big fucking ZILIVA-PWNED banner to display -

Im there as well, and down for meeting. Where should we meet? I dont think parking a trailer will be to much of a problem. Theres usually those huge RV things parked there without a problem.

When we get the official schedule we can try and make plans. And if someone wanted to make a huge banner for us to represent thatd be cool.

ZodiacSR

They let you pit in the hot pit lane area? The gates open at 7am right? How about we all meet at the East Paddock area around building D and go from there?

http://www.willowspringsraceway.com/trackinformation/PitLg.htm

When do they normally send the official schedules out? I figured we should have recieved something by email already?

And can you guys tell me how strict they really are about long sleeve shirts and jeans? I'm planning to go in t-shirt and shorts, I was at Buttonwillow again this past weekend and it was freakin' hot!!

Sorry for all the questions.

mehsilvia
05-01-2007, 12:09 PM
Yeah, saw your posts about buttonwillow last weekend. Coming prepared for Willow Springs, shade, coolers, etc . . .

They usually do allow parking at the EAST end of the hot-pit lanes for drivers to setup/park. But usually its the solo-daily driver guys that all pit there. Us hardcore (trailer'd folk) park back behind Buidling D along the main road.

Im gonna get there early so i can check things out at the hot-pit section and see where we can setup.

Keep an eye out for me, black/black/black rig pulling through.

btw - they are fairly strickt about the jeans/long pants requirement, but im usualy the only one there with long sleeves. or so it seems.

Yea i will be wearing pants. Last summer i came here in the peak of the heat and it wasnt to bad as long as you stay in the shade.

About the info they usually send it out a couple days before the event. When i pitted last time i went all the way to the right of the pit area. Thats most likely will be where i pit this time.

I usually try and get there pretty early(or at least as early as i can get out of bed). Ill be there with my canopy and cooler. My names Sam. The car in my sig is my ride so keep a look out. Jon what does your car look like?

Im actually pretty interested in getting involved in this type of racing.

Mind you my car has a japanese engine and extensive modifications.

There isnt really a classing for hpde just skill level. When you get to time trials they have a whole bunch of class guidlines that i havent really looked at.

Hey Steve, welcome! I'm interested in competing like you are. If you run TT (time trials) they just take off time depending on your modifications, for example -0.05 for fuel cell or something. I think stock 240 with KA is TTE class, but if you have SR20 its TTF? If you run in PT/SU (Performance Touring/ Super Unlimited) wheel to wheel racing theres horsepower/weight ratio you have to figure out and they place your car in a field of similar cars to even out the competition.

But you need a TT license or Provisional/Competition license. And depending on how good you are, they sign you off, and you move on to the next level. I think after you finish all 4 HPDE requirements, you can apply for a Provisional license, but you have to compete in 4 official races while being watched by instructors. Once they see you can handle the pressures of being in competition, they sign you off and the Regional head guy has to sign you off too and *BAM* you get your competitions license!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please, I skimmed through the whole 2007 CCR (Club Codes and Regulations) and the 2007 TT rule book. Its alot to read!! :faint:

"look like" as in Photo's of our sexy whips? :keke: or list of mods. Cause we have the full spectrum covered between the three of us who showed up at this event. From stock - to full modded swap.

I think the best setup for track is stock. When you first go to the track you should learn it and then see what mods you feel like you need.

But a good starting point is suspension.

Pics of our first Zilvian NASA meet. Another beautiful SoCal day! 78degrees (windy as hell)

SNC240SX, ZodiacSR and myself all PIT together for this one.

We met up with these guys that run SGR/Autocannons S13, they want us to PIT with them next time. They loved the fact that we were representing the 240's - a definate minority in roadrace.

And what was even cooler, HiRevOnline's photographers stopped by and took ton's of pics of our rides (also very excited to see 240's out there) and invited us to hang with them and SGR/Autocannon for bar-b-que

I went to HiRevOnline to see if they had posted this past weekends pics, and found these of me from the last NASA session.
I have to say, they have an eye for tallent
