after seeing so many posts starting with OMG SOMEONE STOLE MY 240 ive been on the look out for decent security systems, when i came across a pretty good idea for relativey cheap. So i figured id help out all you zilvians who put tons of time and effort into your cars yet refuse to spend money on any type of security. The new toy is the Blackline GPS snitch its a portable GPS tracking system that uses google maps to pinpoint your cars location it also has motion sensors and all that...pretty sick cause you dont have to wire it up or have you just hide it in your car. The thing goes for $399 plus activation etc etc...anyway modified magazine did a review of this thing said it worked pretty well..im contemplating doing a group buy on these if anyone would be interested in that anyway enough talk heres the link

thats a damn good idea....

no install, just hide it somewhere.

i just have a question of how long that battery will last after its initially charged.

yeah not sure on battery life although when you log in online to see where your car is it will tell you how much battery life is left...it also can alert you if your car is moved etc on your cell phone pretty sick

I would think it would be a better idea to be able to wire it into the vehicle via a plug or something, and have the battery as a backup/ rechargeable.

Sounds really interesting. Good way to get your car back if someone happens to steal it.
Plus, you can get a discount on your insurance by having something like this in your car.

yeah i also read about the snitch from the modified magazine, definately cool, i am currently investing in one of these. but if you could pull a GB on this that would be even better.

"borrow your g/f's car" . . hide one of those in there . . .the ultimate in stalker technology haha.

This would be a pretty good theft device. Doesnt Lo-Jack allow you to track the car online??

haha yeah this is super stalker technology lol...also allows you to not call the police and show up at the jackers house with a few friends with crowbars and baseball bats

Or could just get a boost mobile phone and mologogo.
$60 for the phone, 20cents a day for the data service.
Cheep phone GPS not so hot, this is the $60 phone:

Course I programed all my own google mapping, but its not really hard.

GPS isn't really anti-theft, more of theft recovery. Nice alarm, kill switch, and maybe even a removable w/lock hub steering wheel if your really paranoid will keep most thieves at bay.

i415 is the phone I got (goto boostmobile.com its $30!) but you also need a datacable off ebay.

http://www.mologogo.com has the software.
Load up the software, go into the pref of the new software, there is a spot to enter a custom data http link... I put my own server in there. Logged whatever was sent...
What I got was something like this:
09-24-2006 22:58:07: pointType = CELL ; altitudeUncertainty = -999999 ; altitude = -999999 ; speedUncertainty = -1 ; speed = -1 ; direction = -1 ; accuracy = -1 ; lon = -116.94792533333333 ; lat = 32.525013333333334 ; pw = xxxxx ; user = spirit ;

From there I figgured out the google stuff. Lon/Lat is a direct plugin to google, direction was a bit more fun, but still simple. Also when this one can't get GPS connection, It will map which cell node it is connected to... so you can get the general location of the car.

The phone will only power it self for about 8 hours... so it does need to be plugged in.

its really sad how easy the 240 is to break into. I locked my keys in my car at my girlfriend's house and it took me all of 45 seconds to open the door with no damage to anything.

Yeah, but if F'n thieves want ur car...they'll take it, no matter what:bite:
This is a good way to get it back, and yes show up with a few buds or with 45mm :fruit:. Another cool thing, it's interchangeable (between cars, I have two mod cars) so yeah I'd be interested. Although I'd hard wire it BUT still have it removable with ease. :squintd:

I would think it would be a better idea to be able to wire it into the vehicle via a plug or something, and have the battery as a backup/ rechargeable.

Installing a Vehicle Power Kit in your vehicle takes only minutes. The outcome is higher GPS tracking sensitivity and shorter response times while keeping Snitch’s battery fully charged. Consider installing a few Vehicle Power Kits in your vehicle so that you have some hiding place options. Change it up!
