View Full Version : Air lifts integrated into chassis?

I was recently attending a drift event and a fastback had integrated air lifts into the chassis which made changing tires a breeze. Anyone know the technical name for them? how much would a set run? Anyone have them on their 240?

No special name, they're just called air jacks. A decent air jack system will cost the same price as a 240 (more if you get one of those baller AP racing ones) so I doubt anyone has em.

good for racecars, unjustifiable for street cars
unless you dig stopping at a stoplight, lifting up into the air, revving out and then slamming down when the light turns green.

hey that'd be pretty cool
*orders some air jacks*

The problem with airjacks is they are ment to be lifted on nitrogen bottles. 350+ psi

To do that at the race track you'll need to bring a big nitrogen tank and regulator assembly in a cage. The airhoses are different as well. To do it with shop air.. the tubes have to be about 3" in diameter to lift a S14.

edit here's a link to one incase you want to buy

if your just looking for the ability to raise and lower your car then you could always go for the roberuta cup kit http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w166/maxlopes/roberuta.jpg

^^ cups go over your existing coilovers and use air pressure to raise and lower the car....hotness but the price tag makes it pretty unpractical as well...i will own these one day lol part of the baller ass set up of my dreams:rawk:

if you want to change your tires they have like a hydraulic piston attached to a lifting pad, and there is a manual lever that you use to close and open the valve and to raise and lower the lifting pad, its totally awesome and easy to use, im so glad i live in 21st century

YAR! Go go lifting pad ftw! :coold:

Back on topic, air jacks are def cool, and would make tire changing a breeze, but with that $2K, I'm pretty sure you can pay some kid to change your tires all season.

D2 Racing sells air jacks "for the serious racers" it's what's on their website. Price is $360 per air jack without bracket or lines.

next door we have a porshe GT series, full 24hour racer,

it has jacks, super badass... Lemme see if I have some pictures...

and I believe there are two kinds of air jacks,

ones where you use Air to push them down and bring the car up,

and ones that have a tank onboard, in which by the push of a button the chassis jumps up, and you just refill the tank for next pitstop while it is being matenced or tire change.

truely much to badass for anyone on this forum, no offence.

unless your a secret gt 24 hour series. which your not.

Jacking the car seriously takes no time at all, like 15 seconds. There is no point to these at all, NASCAR don't even use them do they?
You will spend 10x longer actually changing the wheels than jacking the car.

nascar use 1 pump lift jacks

if you like totally suck you can get an electric scissor jack that goes up and down by itself without pumping

but if you need that, then i dunno if you can even turn the steering wheel on a car

2500 lb weight limit too... That pretty much cuts out all of us except for the really hardcore cars.

a friend did something like chmercer said, just bought a scissors jack cut a hole in his trunk and mounted it in there. Takes some space but so does a cage and fuel cell...

yeah.... My problem here isn't the TIME it takes to jack up my car, it's the fact that with aero, it's next to IMPOSSIBLE to get anything under the car. Taking off aero is a bitch. So yeah, all you people saying it takes 15 seconds to jack up a car, you're too high.

buy wood boards

if you cant get over a 1 inch wood board, then.. uhh..

TheSquidd

A 1" board isn't going to clear my undercarriage for a jack.

http://gspec.squidd.org/Gallery2/g2data/albums/Members/Squidd/theSquiddsS13/_DSC7799.jpg

Takes about 3 1" boards, which typically end up hitting my sideskirt and cracking it, scraping on the front bumper. Even then I'm shoving the lowest jack I could buy into my side skirt and flexing it.

I should rephrase it, its not next to impossible to get a jack under it, it's next to impossible to get a jack under it without damaging something and taking forever.

why not raise it just a lil. i mean being really low is nice but if its causing you that much problems then its not worth it. btw do u spark all over with your exhaust? i want to go lower but im afriad my exhaust will be left in a pothole sumwhere ova here

Dousan_PG
03-27-2007, 06:14 PM
it does take 15 seconds
i drive on boards and then jack it up

TheSquidd
03-27-2007, 06:25 PM
Well I need your jack then sir. =P

Raise? I intend to lower it more.

No, I have created a custom exhaust that basically is tucked right up against the body, sectioned down pipe etc. Standard downpipe + cat back = exhaust touching the ground at stop.

WILDACEX187
03-27-2007, 06:35 PM
crap so most of u guys that are really low have custom exhaust setups im thinking. ok thanx for the info

-Squidd: Your car has always looked sick.

-The person that said you'd need 3" lines: Idiot. That's like needing 6" intercooler piping with a T25. Pressure drop what? Bigger=volume, what is needed is pressure.

If a bagged fullsize truck can hop with large bags and 1/2" line, a smaller car will easily acheive height in no time with small canisters.

-Anyone who says to "raise your car": Some of us aren't down with Formula D-spec height. I have less than 3/4" frame clearance and mobb I-5 from Olympia to work in South Seattle everyday. I like it like that. I do not care if you do. I have issues getting my car elevated and I AM going to pursue some kind of alternative jacking very soon. I don't complain about it, I am solving it.

Sorry for the semi-angry rant..... been a long day, lol.

sears makes a 100$ aluminum jack that is similar to the longacre one... its low profile and i get under my car with just a peice of 1 1/4 wood.

Haha, sorry to bump this for no good reason but.....

Somebody neg rep'd me for my car being "slow and ghetto". Funny part is, I realize that is slow. The engine is stock down to the airbox and exhaust. Secondly, not a single person on here knows one bit about my car besides what is clearly visible on the exterior. Perception is deception my friend..

Reminds me why I don't post here often. You say something someone does not agree with, and they ANONYMOUSLY attack you. NTM they attempt to get to you with some irrelevent comment. Grow up.......

/Rant

Yes, I expect that this is going to draw more negative rep. If you choose to do so, grow some balls and attach your screenname so we can discuss the merits of E-thugging.

but anyways.

If your really low,

just make a ramp.

Go to your lumber yard and buy quarter inch, cut and build steps, if you think your too low for that your not.
