That sucks

Doesnt non correctable mean you just pay the fine and call it a day?

I think it stays on your record?

I think if you get caught again the fine is double?

I don't sell HKS so not sure on your specific exhaust.

Got the same ticket last year from a Pasadena motorcycle cop. Pay the fine, mine was like $115, and get a quieter exhaust (or carry proof that your exhaust passes the 93db test).

Call HKS to see if they can send you new paperwork.

Pay the find.

Don't drive like a dumbass or don't drive your 240 on the street.

Also, you should be saying "fucking california legislature who made the laws the cops are enforcing".

You have an AFTERMARKET Exhaust on your car and you bitch about cops? Like OptionZero said....you should be complaining about CA legislature. The cops are just enforcing the laws they are told to. Not much you can fight on a non-correctable ticket. Did you look up DMV's website and read about how to fix this? Until you do the research, don't whine about the fact you got a ticket for something you modified and now don't know how to fix. The laws are clear. If you have documentation on the exhaust DB's (you can go to places to have this tested too) and they are w/in the limits set by the state, then fight it when you have your court date.

I just took care of a non-correctable ref ticket about 2 weeks ago. Basically, I got the car tested at smog ref and passed everything. Then I made a court appointment and appeared in front of the judge.

The judge asked me if I had proof of correction, and I said "yea" and gave it to the baliff to show to him. Even though the ticket said "non correctable" on it, the judge let me go without having to pay the fines. All I had to pay was like 10 bucks for the court processing fee or whatever, and that was it.

So basically, I say, the ticket says "non-correctable" on it - just take it to the judge anyway because he could possibly let you go without the fines. I guess judges make their own ruling once you appear in front of them, meaning they can be nice or they can screw you.

Btw, appearing in court saved me $592.00. And that was for:
Modified exhaust (even though I had already gotten it signed off at chp once)
missing carb device (I had a cone filter instead of air box)
bald tires (stupidest violation ever - aside from the sticker ticket I once got)

falaffles.

HKS exhaust isn't carb exempt.

Any exhaust after the catback which does not exceed 96dB at a certain distance is legal, however, it is the Peace Officer's discretion as to whether the exhaust is "legal", and he is the one whom gives the tickets. Have fun.

he gives the ticket, but it can be tossed once u prove that the exhaust is legal

just like cops can arrest you with probable cause and their discretion, but you can get out of jail if they find he lacked the grounds to do so. You'll still go to jail, but you get out. You're innocent until you attract enough attention to be assumed guilty, and then you're guilty until you cause enough ruckus to be ruled innocent.

That's the wording on the vehicle code. basically it falls under modified emissions. The idea is that modifying the exhaust something beyond stock will affect the environment or create excessive noise. If they held that law to the word, it would mean that you could ONLY EVER replace your stock exhaust with a new stock exhaust bought from the manufacturer. Even an upgraded factory exhaust (i.e. Nismo) wouldn't be considered legal because the car wasn't sold that way.
Basically, each cop enforces it as far as he wants to, but the spirit of the law is that you should modify your exhaust system to create excessive noise or cause the creation of more pollution. That's the end goal of the law, not to harass car enthusiasts. You'll likely never see a 5.0 Mustang or LS1 Camaro or Corvette pulled over and cited for their exhausts - it's mainly use to profile 'street racers' and pull anyone over who modifies their car.

Just curious, were you leisurely driving around or flooring it? I've ran the Greddy Ti exhaust and that thing was LOUD. It was my daily driver to go to LA, Irvine, etc and never had a problem. I had that exhaust for 7 months and I got rid of it cause it was too loud for me.

word! i had a similar story to that, i got pulled over, cop gave me a exhaust ticket. switched exhaust, then one day i was looking for cops to get it signed off. so i went to the police department, i see a cop, so i flagged him down, and i assumed that he seen my boost gauge. he was like "hold on, i'll be back." he came back and he placed a "state ref" sticker, saying i had to go. in my mind i was like F*** that that's bulls***. so i pulled the sticker out and went to the other side of town and had it signed off by a cool cop, went to court, showed them that i got it signed off, and that was that. 10 bucks. it felt good that i didn't have to goto state ref, i would've pissed in my pants haha.

Seriously - state ref was such a drag. I went to the one at East LA College - the guy was so picky about every damn thing. At first he failed me because my cone air filter wasn't CARB approved wtf... I was like dude... even stock panel air filters don't have CARB stickers on them! etc etc etc

I'm just glad it's all over.
