Well the S14's stock unit crapped out, and now I'm in the market for a stock looking unit. I was wondering if the 350z cd/tape headunit would fit directly in and if it was plug and play. Also for the SE models, would the tweeters have to be rewired?

Its most likely not plug and play. Best bet would be to get a factory nissan 350z harness from a crashed Z in a yard or part out, and then get the harness for an aftermarket radio for the 240sx. Line up the wires & splice / solder and you should have an adapter that'll make the 350z radio work. As far as tweeters, on the SE they are fed from the amps in the back, so as long as you get it to work with the factory amps (make sure u run an amp power wire in the harness!!) the tweeters should work.

More trouble then it's worth, just get a cheap brand name aftermarket deck.

Truthfully, installing an aftermarket deck is a similar process because you have to wire up the harness for that too. After market is a hair easier because there usually are directions telling you how to do it. Color coding makes more sense too :)

Color coding is your friend, lol. I dunno, I would rather have an after market deck that sounds better/ does cooler things that fucking with wiring diagrams trying to get another oem deck to work. just me though.

Oh, and for the love of God, don't cut the plug off of your car's stereo harness, out of 4 S13's I have owned, all have had the chassis plug cut out, and thats just retarded, lol. You can get a conversion plug from Best Buy/ Circuit city, and it's just plug and play, just have to match the colors from the adapter harness to the stereo deck. Simple.

+1. I've done both. Wired a '96 G20 deck into a '93 G20 (didn't line up AT ALL with wiring) and a number of aftermarket decks in multiple cars. I'd prolly tend to agree with you that aftermarket is the way to go, but either way is doable.

The Z33 deck will fit in the opening but it's contoured differently and won't look right in the S14 dash. The plugs are the same, but unless the one you get is a preamp deck you'll have to bypass the OE amplifiers. The tweeters are wired in parallel to the door speakers so there's nothing needed additionally for those.
And lastly, the Z33 decks are ugly as living hell. A double DIN out of a 98-01 Altima or 95-99 Maxima is a much better choice.

Yeah that's true, I'm looking into a stock looking unit because I live in a ghetto part of socal and I want something that looks like it's not worth stealing, but then again I have a 240 lol
