Report from Autoblog.
With the New York Auto Show only a couple weeks away, the embargos had to begin to break any day now. Road and Track started things off by releasing its May issue online early with a single of the new Infiniti G37 and a short driving impression. Edmunds Inside Line and Automobile smelled blood, and immediately opened the flood gates revealing everything they knew about Infiniti's new G Coupe. These news outlets were apparently invited to a sneak preview of the G37 at Nissan's test facility in Arizona last month, and while Infiniti likely set strict embargoes on publishing pictures and driving impressions of the new model, all it takes is one hole in the dam to start a deluge.
The full view of the G37 is stunning, with familiar cues from the G35 Sedan mingled with coupe-specific cues like a large front intake and fast profile. The headlights peel back into the front fenders giving the G37 an even more imposing presence than the current G35 coupe.
The already excellent 3.5L V6 from the G35 Sedan gets bored out by 4.6mm to reach 3.7 liters, and the compression is increased to 11.0:1 to create some outstanding power numbers. An estimated 330 hp and 270 lb-ft will move the 3,682 lb coupe, and the drive should be much improved with 36-percent stiffer underpinnings than the G35 coupe. Stopping power is also quite impressive, with 14-inch front and 13.8-inch rear rotors.
Infiniti showed the world it was no pushover in the entry luxury market with its first-generation G35 coupe, and we think the great looks and impressive power numbers of the all-new G37 may put Infinity at the front of the pack. Of course, the BMW 335i coupe leads the pack at the moment while weighing less and putting up bigger torque numbers with its twin-turbo inline-six, so we'll reserve judgment on whether or not the G37 wins by a nose until we've had the chance to drive it.

not as stunning as i'd hoped. time will tell i guess. it's probably a faster, better handling car though. can't complain there.

As simple as the update was to the Sedan and now the Coupe, I think the Sedan has benefited from the update more then the coupe has.
The Coupe is sexy though. I'm sure it will have a better impact in person.

Yeah, that doesn't really look that different, just a face lift and a butt job.

Not crazy about it. Looks boring..the headlights look like a spin off of the old 350 lights.
More pics here.

yeah, saw this on freshalloy,
didn't wow me as the first gen,
the sedan looks better imo
too bubbly and bland, no more muscular angles, geared for a chick a little too much,
also looks like the altima coupe
probably will grow on me as time goes by, but by first impression, it's bleh
more interested in the engine, seems like it's the gtr base, so you can imagine the tuner market will be huge,
larger displacement, more power and perhaps better epa ratings according to that site,
can't wait till the 3.7 goes on the sedan, because right now, i'd go for that instead
can't wait till the 3.7 goes on the sedan
can't wait till the 3.7 goes in my S13.

haha, i asked about this in FA, apparently the vq de and the vq hr or whatever this new one is, is completely different in design, but i'm sure someone can make it fit, and since this new gen 3.7 engine is most likely the base for the gtr, imagine putting that in the s13 and upgrading it, it'll blow out the drivetrain, lol

The new sedan looks and the old coupe look way better then this. The engine is the only part that tickles my fancy. Maybe it will grow on me, or maybe once the start making aero kits for it?

the prototype looked so much hotter with the LED everything and slammed to the ground stance
oh well, time for Clearcorners.com + aftermarket suspension and wheels to fix that...

good point, the sedan does look pretty good now. i saw one at a gas station and looked it over pretty good, it looks even better in person, maybe the same is true for the coupe. also, these aren't official photos of the production vehicle. official photos might help too.

is that a production photo or the concept? it looks like the car in the first photo but the first article made it sound like it wasn't ready.

Official photo's should be revealed by Nissan soon I'm sure. But the car is being debuted officially at the New York Auto show in a couple weeks.

its faster and better handling, but it looks like the old m35, a tiburon, and the 6-series smashed together..i dont like the front at all, but the rear looks ok.

Nice comparison. I'd take the G over the 3 Series Coupe any day. As much as I like th new 3 Series I think it's too understated and doesn't stand out as much.

+1 for that! Im tired of new cars being ridiculously huge and heavy for factory cars. Me in my S13 pulling up next to anything these days and the top of my car barely hits the top of their door.

Honestly if I was buying a car in that price range, I'd be buying it first as a DD, and Second as a weekend Auto X car. That being said dependability goes a long way in a purchase like that. I'd pick the G. May be heavy, but at least it'll get me to where I wanna go when I'm beating on it. ;)

the 3-series interior is a fairly big strike against it, although i dig the exterior
that dash is absolute shit

there are more flattering pics from g35driver.com,
the arizona pics are test mules, some very slight difference, but the newer pics from that infiniti marketing guy are much nicer IMO, but still don't like that happy face front, that needs to be a meaner look

Thats what I was gonna say. Lookin at the full on front pics, it reminded me of the SC430s flow lines.
Like said before, the concept looked sick, this one failed misearably. Hope they do some retweaking and buffen it up a bit.
Now that I'm disappointed with this one, I can now look forward to what theyre gonna do with the Z. I hope they redesign it better than this one. All the Z really needs is to add sharper lines to it since its so damn round. Then add this engine, which should have a bit more power than the G, should be talking bout 330-340 hp easy.

The lighting and background of the pics make a huge difference. Those pix in the desert or whatever really kill it.

This new G is a 3.7L v6?... What will the new GTR have, the same, a heftier linear 6 or a v8 option? turbo??........it will arrive in late '08 wearing '09 nissan badges, correct?.....Curious...Anyways.....

not too shabby, motortrend tested it against the 335 and picked the G as well
the new 3 has a disgusting interior and they definitely have forgotten how to build turbo cars... The first 335s were coming with no oil coolers and you couldnt drive them hard before the oil started cooking then the turbos failed... also the new 3 has no coolant temp guage wtf? its a warning light that comes on and by the time it comes on its too late

Thanx for the negative rep, just wondering about engine options on the GTR, thought this was a discussion forum.......wtf?.....wouldn't it be cooler to kindly answer my question rather than go negative rep me?....seems like there's a bunch of junior haters on zilvia.....most of 'em using their daddy's computers.....
